Author Topic: What are the practical differences between the P-38J-25s and later, and the P-38L?  (Read 304 times)

Dunno if this has been discussed before, but in the skinning forum, the idea of skinning 38J-25s as P-38Ls came up (since they had dive recovery flaps and wing-mounted landing light factory-installed).

I'm all for it if its more accurate, but I wanted to through it out here to the P-38 experts before I ran in by HTC.   Are there any significant performance differences?   Roll rate the same in both?   Fuel tankage the same?

What about non-performance related changes that might increase survivablilty, like armored plate?

[EDIT] Think I found a problem right away.   P-38L was first variant fitted with zero-length rocket launcer rails.   Skinning a J25 as an L might be more correct performancewise, but it would incorrectly give the that aircraft rocket launcher rails it did not have...
