7.1 surround sound
« on: October 03, 2007, 05:13:46 PM »
Ok, I have a 7.1 creative surround sound system on my computer, while playing AHII I only get 3.1 speakers (front 3 and the sub). I am a man of sound. Everything in life for me has to sound incredible or its just not great for me :). that was about my only turn off to AHII but the gameplay was awesome enough to keep me. Point being, I'd really like to know a way to get the full out of my sound system in AHII. The sound card for my computer is an inbuilt ac'97 with fully updated drivers for my OS (vista x64).

Does anyone have some suggestions or possibly even quick fixes?

Thanks

do a search for "sound", with Skuzzy as a poster. He said something about how the sound is set up for AH2, but I can't remember what it was, it was under a header about surround sound headsets.

On a personal note, I don't know "how" the sound is, or even if I have "true" surround sound, but I have a Sound Blaster live 5.1 card, run to 10 speakers with 2 amps, and a powered sub. To me it sounds great, but with everything tucked into my simpit, its hard to tell direction. My 5.1 surround sound headset (8 speakers) is very good, and I swear I can tell where ack burst are popping just from the sound  :)

I found the threads but they do not solve my problem, as far as my headset goes I get absolutely NO sound out of them as for my surround sound speakers i only get ANY sound out of the front 3, I'm not really concerned about being able to tell which way fire is coming from purely based on sound, thats why i have hat switches, but with only my front 3 speakers going i have very light sound, so its harder for me to understand over vox and to hear when im being shot/shot at.

do you have  a surround sound board? Does an onboard sound card do real surround? My 5.1 sound blaster has 6-7 jacks on it. front, rear, center, sub, mic, inout, line out I think. If you don't have all of them you can get a splitter from radio Shack. be sure you get the "Stereo" one other wise your going to just be spliting only one channel per out put.

Widow speaker setup can effect that. When I got my new sound card, I couldn't hear GV's behind me through the speakers.  I had to change the speaker sittings in the control panel to the speaker set up I had.  After that, it all worked well..

Aces High II uses the DirectSound 3D API for sound positioning.  There is no special encoding/decoding needed with this API (unlike Dolby or EAX).

However, Microsoft ripped out the DirectSound API from Vista and forces all sounds to be played through the regular Windows sound API in Vista.  I am pretty sure you lose all directional sounds in Vista due to this handicap.  Creative Labs has re-created the DirectSound API for Vista, but it is not available for all Creative Labs sound cards and certainly not available for any other make of sound chip.

Under XP and earlier operating systems, it is a simple matter of configuring the speaker setup in the operating system.  Nothing else is needed.

I'm using a 7.1 channel sound system and an ac'97 built in card that supports 7.1 sound, im not concerned about getting directional sound, just getting sound out of all the speakers at the same time, also i have 6 jacks in the back to which i have 4 plugs plugged in, i get full sound in every other program but AHII, and again, im not concerned about directional sound, I'm just happy with the power that i get out of have 7 speakers and a woofer, but i only get my 3 front speaker and the woofer for now, it was the same way when I watched 300 on my computer (boy was I pissed about that too :lol) so im just trying to get sound out of all of my speakers at once, its not being caused by my sound card im pretty sure since it works with everything else just fine...

*correction*
I AM getting sound out of all speakers but only when say, a planes flies in from behind me (directional sound, I was absolutely shocked :huh when I figured this out) I realized it about 10 minutes ago when I was getting shot at by a carrier group ship ack and i heard loud explosions directly from behind me... is there a way to disable the thing where your engine and sounds specifically come from the front 3 speakers and add a bit to the side, *especially when it comes to vox* i'd like to hear radio chatter on all sides of me so im certain what my flight lead is saying :D

Great going on the directional sound skuzzy :aok  the large majority of games I play dont really do so well with it but you have seemingly perfected it!

Thank you for all your responses and help,
