Wouldn't the extra HP/speed of the Dora increase the turn radius relative to the A-8? Then, as an offset the A-8's added weight it would give back part of that advantage?

The greater power translates into the Dora being superior in climbing turns. At low speeds, the Dora can maneuver nose high, which the A-8 cannot follow. It will bleed the A-8 down and simply drop in behind. So, the Dora pilot simply takes the fight vertical and the A-8 is quickly in deep bandini.
