No doubt we face a quandry. Suffer those not different from many of our immigrant ancestors looking for a better life while reducing our quality of life as a result of supporting those with a dragging dependency upon our social infrastructure.

Those hiring illegals should be doing some time as well as paying the fines. The fines should at least cover all the costs incurred from the arrest, trial, deportation, etc.
Fighting this thing from the top down, not from the bottom up should yield better results.

Now I'm not saying this guy is a political refugee, but when speaking of illegals, Guatemala is a special case to consider.  For them it very well could be come to the U.S. or die.

I'm Colombian.

And you're right ;)

also...

"For 11 years, Pedro Zapeta, an illegal immigrant from Guatemala, lived his version of the American dream in Stuart, Florida" ....
"Zapeta, who speaks no English..."

He may have commited a criminal offense by entering the country illegally, he may have not paid taxes, he may have been ignorant that you have to declare more than $10k taking it out of the country....

but just how STUPID can you be to take $59k in cash in a BAG ... and not learn English in 11 YEARS?

Sorry, I say deport him after he pays the taxes due to the Gov, pays a fine for entering the US illegally (it'd be useless to jail him, just a waste of gov. money) and refuse him entry to the US for the next 20 years.

Thats right. right is right and wrong is wrong.
He was in this country illegally.
Therefore he had no right to be here let alone work and make any kind of money here.

You should not be rewarded with money that you gained illegally.
Which is exactly what he did by being here illegally to begin with.

What he did was wrong. he doesnt deserve a penny

25 cent raise is all he received.  He saved 90% of his paycheck, only spending what basics he needed to live on.

He should pay whatever fine for not paying his yearly income tax and be allowed to keep the rest since he did earn it.

On a side note...I wonder what the candidate pool must have been like if he was able to beat out legal residents.

Les, you cant just take the money the man worked for (however illegally) based on that reasoning.

Like i said above, the gov. should just come up with a heavy fine charged to all illegal aliens that are deported. If they refuse to pay it then at that point either jail them or confiscate any assets they own in the US (thats what the gov. does if you dont pay your bills anyway!).

Hey Tac,

Didn't mean to throw Colombia around like that as a comparison. I truly love Colombia and consider myself half Colombiano. Been married to a lovely woman from Bogota almost 20 years now.

Had to really be on alert last week. Been awhile since I visited some place so dangerous. Luckily will see no reason to return.

How much is the US spending to try to keep his money? Take what he owes in back taxes and send him on his way.Give a month amnesty to the rest to take their money and run for the border minus taxes owed. After that sucks to be you. Oh and any time someone presses 1 to hear spanish, deport them.

Oh if their country is soo bad they should do something to fix it instead of coming here

So let them go to Mexico,Belize,Honduas or any of 100 other countries.
They dont belong here illegally reguardless of their reason.
Let them apply for political assylum. If the Gov oks it fine. If not...Well tough to be them isnt it.

Using that reasoning if he illegally amassed the money selling drugs we shouldnt be able to take it???

he is guilty of multiple crimes here... being border jumping pondscum and tax evasion, probably welfare fraud and a number of other things we collectively have paid for.

take the money, put him in jail and release him at the end of his sentence on the other side of the border.

I wonder if this guy ever got sick and went to a doctor during his 11 years here.

Think he paid cash for the visit?
