A Hot Day on Cactus

The event starts at 10pm EST in the SEA..
Everyone is invited to attend
Please show up a few minutes early so we can choose a CO for each side..

After a brutal shelling during the night, The men on cactus woke up to hear that 11 troop transports were steaming down the slot covered by a large force of Zero fighters. The American force that scrambled from cactus consisted of 14 Wildcats and 10 Army fighters. They would need them all. Carrier aircraft from the Enterprise would launch and help cactus aircraft keep the transports at bay. At the end of the day, seven Japanese transports lay at the bottom of the ocean.

In this Snap Shot the Cactus Air Force will engage the Japanese convoy escort.

First off, I'm a fan of the A6M2 I fly it a bit. However, I don't think it's a fair choice against the F6F and the P40E. I don't mean in actual flight performance, but in ammo load out.

Both the F6F and the P40E are pretty tuff planes, yet the A6m2 only has 60 rounds of cannons and about 600 rounds in the machine guns. I think it will be pretty hard pressed for the guys in A6m2's to have a real chance when being out numbered by 20% unless there are some real good sticks on the Axis side.

IMHO the Axis should fly the A6m5b's because they have the needed cannons to shoot down heavy planes like the F6F and the P40E.

I'm not trying to complain here, because I'd likely choose to fly the A6m anyway, simply because I like them. I just think it will be next to impossible for the Axis to win in this engagement, unless the Axis get the top sticks.

Just a thought and I'll try to be there tonight.

A couple of things.  Zeros are not out numbered but have a 20% advantage.  Its not an F6F but F4Fs they are flying against.
