Special effects in next release.
« on: May 01, 2000, 10:09:00 AM »
I am shure that HTC guys already has the plans of what to do, and how to do it

But:
When we get smoke from bombed buildings and acks and so on, could you make it fat ?

I mean really fat dense black or grey smoke, so if a big raid is hitting a field, it actually will be difficult for the next wave of attackers to see the targets because of the smoke after the first raid.

I liked the smoke we got in WB (after 2.0 I think), but it was way to little, more like the smoke from a camp fire.

When I look at pictures from Pearl Harbour, you cant see the sky because all the smoke from the bombed Ships and buildings.
That is the amount of smoke I want

Yea, I know there is a FPS matter here, but at least on my machine clouds has very little impact on FPS, and I guess smoke and clouds are very simmilar to make.

But I am not a programmer, so I dont have a clue about how hard or easy these things are to make.

Just my 0,2$

You smell that? Do you smell that?
Napalm, son. Nothing else in the world smells like that.
I love the smell of napalm in the morning.
The smell, you know that gasoline smell, smelled like victory.

I just hope the rather cheezy mid air explosions (and ground crashes) are replaced by something more cool-ish

It's decent now, but a great effect would be nice

"Could you  make it fat?"....

Only if you pay to get my system upgraded to a P800 so that my Frame rate will be reasonable.

I love special effects as much as the next guy, but they mean  nothing when I'm involved in trying to kill the other guy.

It should include sound effects too, especially speed/dive feedback in planes.

I agree StSanta, the mid air explosions we have now is rather poor, so I hope they redesign them to.

So I am rather courious how things will look in 1.03

Well, the previous releases certainly exceeded most expectations. A release labeled 'special effect' can raise some expectations that are beyond the level of a online flightsim. So keep cool for now

Good topic.

I'm running a cheap old Celery 300A o/c'd to 450 and can really get consistant 30+, even 40+ FPS. That's some damn good coding, concidering how nice all the graphics are.

With such high frame rates, and a 450 today concidered "slow", I think there is room for more effects like the smoke.

One big disappointment is the Chute-Kill graphics.
I find it hard to believe every pilot had TNT in his pockets.

Wasn't it that real old game SWOTL that when you strafed the chute, it would fold in and the pilot would scream towards the ground in a death spiral? That be nice.

Actually, I will send the HTC office a copy of "Soldier of Fortune" if they want some inspiration on the damage end.
