Furballing lags
« on: October 14, 2007, 01:59:42 PM »
Whenever I get into even the SMALLEST furball, or fly over a deserted field..  My frame-rate drops through the basement floor...

I don't know what's wrong, is my computer getting old?  I only have 256 GB of RAM, so it could just be slowing down.

But, it's only when I make contact with the outside world...  When I'm flying alone, when nobodies 5 sectors near me, I'm lag free...

Thanks in advance too anybody who can help me.... :aok
There was once a saying that goes "If you put an infinite amount of monkeys in a room with an infinite amount of typewriters, eventually they will produce something worth reading."

The internet has proved this wrong.

As example :
at a 512 texture setting and a 1024 x 768 screen size AH will use 380 mb's of ram or more  in normal clear skys .    now add more stuff withing your vis range and its  sucking up 480 mb's of ram , get into a furball and youve pushed it above your alloted ram amount . have extra processes running in the background and there goes even more ram .

you can turn the performance slider down to use less ram in game and while watching its ussage ingame (ctrl I ) when it gets to your last 20 to 40 mbs worth of ram is when it will start having problems . its being used up and has to wait to refresh ,,,hence your frame drop and game stalls issue.

solution : add more ram
