EntryPoint Booboo somewhere...
« on: October 17, 2007, 05:05:38 PM »
I must have made a booboo somewhere in entering my spawn points - at some point the TE stopped running through the entry point check - it simply quits when I attempt to test the Entry points.

I've scanned through the entry points to make sure that each one for each field is rotated a different direction...

Checked to make sure I don't have any "VOID" objects, where I missed setting the type on a spawn point...

I've tried 2 different machines to ensure that it's not a glitch on just one of them.

Have you guys seen this before?  If so, what caused it to do so if you can recall?

Presumably, there is not some limit as to the number of spawns per map you can place, correct? (Other than that inherent in the number of fields, and that you can't have spawns that face the same way for the same field, etc.).

Is it permissable to have both a vehicle and a boat spawn facing the same direction? I've carefully avoided doing so, although I don't know whether that is a constraint ...

The terrain still loads and all the spawns seem to be correctly shown in the in-game map, although I haven't tried spawning in each and everyone yet though.

Any input would be appreciated.

The spawn check stops on the one that's causing a problem. Most likely you set it on a Forest tile.
Easy in-game again.

He said it stops then quits.

Have you checked if there are any spawns at 0.00 altitude that are NOT "set to terrain alt"?

Whoops  I didn't know I couldn't have a spawn on a forest tile - that's probably the issue.  I'll double check them and ensure that they are all on grass, and while I'm at it, check to make sure they are all set to terrain alt (not that I would have intentionally done otherwise, but just in case.

And no, it doesn't stop - the TE closes - and it runs through them so fast I can't get even a sense for which one it blew up on (even if I knew for sure which order it processed in).

Failing all that, I'll delete by half's until I find the problem one (or ones).

Thanks guys!

Aaargh - found the problem.....

DOH!

Ok.... I couldn't find anything wrong with the entrypoints visually (other than moving a few forest ones that I didn't know I couldn't have to begin with) , so I deleted them in stages thinking I'd eventually remove whichever was the "bad" one(s), at which point I'd then restore the terrain project files and determine what I'd done...

Except that I eventually removed ALL of them, and when I run the entry check, the TE still crashed immediately.

It didn't do this when I began entering spawn points, so I knew for certain I'd mucked up something else entering them.

And then I realized that if I searched for objects by Type with all spawns removed, if it found either a boat entry or vehicle entry on the list I'd probably have found my problem....

which I did.

I'd bobbled at some point and added a "delta4" shape accidentally as a "Veh Ent" type.  (Probably when the train bounced {grin})

Anyway, I removed that when I found it and I'm now all set - but I wanted to thank you all for all your kind help.

Guy

EDIT -> PS.  While I don't know what kind of issues this bogus entry might eventually have caused, at least in offline mode it didn't affect the terrain adversely - it would still build in the TE and run as the Offline Terrain with no issues that I could see.   Of course, I don't know what would have happened if I'd tried to spawn at the bogus spawn point....  I didn't try.
