Rolling scissors
« on: October 14, 2007, 11:07:10 PM »
Hey guys, the other day i was flying against a guy in a p40 and i was in a niki.  We go into a rolling scissors and i cut throttle and did the best i could but i still jumped out in front.  We did this 3 or 4 times and the same thing happened. Does anyone have any tips on making the enemy get in front?

a lot variables come into play. Relative E state and initial positioning just to name two. As a general rule the rolling scissors is either initiated as a defensive move or by the "inferior" plane (often both). If you are in a superior position then you should simply refuse the scissors (if you fly from hi to even to hi a scissors can not occur){if you look at spatulas view of the A-20/P-51 fight you'll see me flying a climbing rolling scissors on the merge} which he simply refuses as I go up for the modified triple he simply scoots. Later we're trading rolling scissors with mixed results.

Rolling scissors never start equal and usually favor the defensive player (or he wouldnt start it would he?). It's very easy to "bail" on a rolling scissors early and almost impossible late (contrast the scissors with Spatula vs those with Grimrpr). In fact if your positive E the best thing to do is go about 270 degree's with the con and then simply level at the bottom of your scissor and roll 45 degrees away in a gentle dive...as the con pulls thru and reaquires you just go into a climbing spiral...easy rope if he follows.

On a side note, one thing you could do is filming your fights.
Even without detailed theoretical knowledge, you may often get an idea what went wrong, or where your enemy did  outfly you.
Also you might post the film of a fight like the one you described, so some of the better sticks here may analyze it for you.
