Incindiary clusters
« on: October 11, 2007, 01:57:32 AM »
I am submitting a request for two potential additions to the game, a B-29 as a perk plane, and inicidiary bombs, and a programming change.

I realize one of the primary goals of this game is not to provide an unfair advantage to one side or the other, and a B-29, which I imagine is oft requested, would serve to do that.  I would say though, that the B-29 provides no more of an advantage than the jet powered aircraft which are all avaiable through perk points.  So, I would also propse the super fortress also be made available under this system.

I also have some to understand that one of the other primary goals of HiTech is to be as authentic as possible, and omitting the B-29 from the arsenal is omitting a significant weapon of the war we are seeking to emulate.

This is also my feeling on only having rockets and conventional bombs available.  Incindiary explosives played a major part in the allied victory and were used extensively in both the theaters of war.

In terms of game play, fire bombs could be used on ietms such as the ammuntition factories and radar centers because currently these are unusuable targets as they do not serve to significantly disadvantage or advantage one side or the other when destroyed for a mere 15 minutes.  A meager amount of time on most maps where 15 min constitutes only a fraction of the travel time to a given battle area.

I do, however, see how fire bombs could provide an unfair advantage in the taking of a base in allowing the destruction of the town to linger.  So, I would propose that this ammunition only be available to perk bombers, as that would limit their use. Or even, if is possible, make them a perk unit themselves.

Finally, the programing change I would ask for is the ability to toggle between strategic and tactical bombing methods when attacking with a heavy or medium bomber.  What I mean is the ability to prohibit all three planes in a formation from dropping on the same target, and in thsi mode, all three planes would drop striaght down without aiming.  I have found it frustrating when trying to suppress a target and I have to try and manipulate the site for no real purpose.  I don't believe this would create unfairness as all sides would have the capability to caroet bomb a base and the feasability of hitting anything valuable would be limited, it would purely be a suppressive measure.

I am wanting these weapons primarily to enhance the authenticity of the experience.

Gotta love it.
I wanna meet whoever made that one, absolute genious :]
B29 should never happen in AH period, nor will it ever happen.

I could really care less if we get the B-29 or not, but I am fairly adamate about the fire bombs.  Either way, it was a request, and like I said, one which probably happens a lot.  I am not new to the game but I am to the forums, that said, well I dont know.  I just feel teh game, although fun, lacks severly in the historical department to teh point where it feels like a "what if" approach.  The lack of a B-29 is not just it either.  Even incidiary rounds for naval planes would be a boost.  I am sure I am beating a dead horse, but hey, I don't really have the time to go digging about the forums to see if something has been said already or not.  And I understand that HTC has to balance fair game play with accuracy, becaus if there were say incidary roudns on US naval planes, than that is all people would fly, but isnt that already the case with cannons and the high speed planes like the LA?  If you bolster each plane with its real world advantages, then I believe it would result ina greater variety in use.  Plus, the naval planes for the most part are a ***** to fly as it is so you would still need to be able to stick the damned thing.  Either way, apparently requesting something so outlandish and elaborate as a B-29 is verboten, god forbid someone shouldnt know that ahead of time.

HAFhr,  a couple of things.  First off, don't take everything thats written here on the BBS too seriously.  Everyone that I've met are pretty decent folks.  Everyone is going to have an opinion too.  The suggestion to using the search feature would have been a good place for you to start.

The B-29 has been talked about for years.  As of right now, I wouldn't expect too much in that aspect.  We're still waiting for CT to come out.  (Which I heard should be in about two weeks.  :D   Sorry HTC, couldn't resist.)

The incindiary bombs has also been discussed.  Whether its historically accurate or not, I don't think it fits into the game play in the MA.  Again, this is just an opinion.  Dropping the standard HE explosive rounds does the job just fine.  And if you want to be truely accurate, when bombers used the incindiary bombs, they were mixed in with the standard HE bombs during a drop.  I'm sure some others will come by and elaborate on this more.  If you are interested in more realistic play, under the General Discussion forum is a topic regarding historic play.

Oh, and if nobody has welcomed you, Welcome to AH II!
