Question About Distance
« Reply #15 on: October 22, 2007, 06:46:03 PM »
As a Rule of Thumb, I have found that the further I move my puter and myself from the wifey in the kitchen the better I have at avoiding "WifeAck".

Also I have locked one of the upstairs bedroom doors and placed a sign that reads "KNOCK BEFORE ENTERING!"

*I am actually in a different upstairs bedroom.*

:D

Kilometers is abbreviated  km......not k

i.e.  1Kilometer would be 1Km  not 1K

It is clear enough (because of above post), but I would like to add one thing. There is NO metric units ever in AcesHigh. And HiTech made it clear that the game would never have metric system.  so, anything you see in the game would be something of a Imperial Units... weight, speed, height, distance, etc.

One funny thing on Imperial System is (or rather one neat thing in metric system is) that all those values have no connection/relation ever. Weight has no relation with distnace, speeds and distances are using different units .. In metric system, if you have 1m x 1m volume of pure water, it would be 1000kg. The only measure of distance and speed is based on meters... etc.

I don't know exactly how to phrase what I'd say, that really is a tricky one, but I'd possibly recommend removing the part about a plane's distance. it just seems it may confuse some as it did even in this thread. the reason is explaining the meaning of 2K icon range above means 6000 feet is more an SA issue, not a simple game mechanics issue, where how the icon system works is strictly game mechanics.

<> to you trainer guys I know you have a tireless, sometimes thankless, and difficult job and I don't mean to be harsh about what you have come up with. I just want to give an outsiders perspective.
I don't know what to put here yet.

There is a hard cap on the number of text characters that can be displayed.  As it is, what I suggested*, and what is in the tip screenshot is slightly worded different to make it display correctly.  All in all, it conveys exactly what was intended, and answers any confusion raised so far in this thread.  Not bad for only 115 characters I think.

*Icon and gun data distance is displayed in yards. Altitude is in feet. A con displaying 2K over head is at around 6,000 feet above you.

yards
Only one other guy piped in saying it was in feet. I was amazed there weren't even a few more people willing to say it was one way or the other.

Slang terms for kilometre include "klick" (sometimes spelled "click" or "klik") and "kay" (or "k").

But I guess you didn't know this or even bothered to research it.

Yeah, otherwise it would be like this (HINT: 1.0Y, 3.5Y, 6.0Y .. . etc).  I have had this arguement with several other players who can't seem to get it.
