..Speaking of Piracy and music.
« on: October 29, 2007, 02:31:59 PM »
I need some opinions here, i was posting on the piracy forum topic and it got me to see that there are some music fans here. I'm trying to get a manager to shop songs to record labels. I've had some respond, i haven't had any of them say they didn't like it. Only your too heavy we don't do that type of music but if we did we'd hire you, i've heard that alot.  I've been talking to Marilyn Mansons manager they got my demo, i'm waiting for a response. So is this music absolute crap or what, or am i barking up the wrong tree trying to get a record deal? I can't tell cause i'm the one that wrote it.

Just listening now fella......pig killer is too heavy for my tastes (but thats probably cos I'm old n stuff), Darkest hour is the same....that said, I'm liking sailing away.........

Couple of things that spring to mind tho.....(and these are only my opinion obviously)

Mix is slightly out of sync....drums should be faded back a bit, lead and rhythm are fine........vox should be pushed up front a bit.......plus you seem to get a lot of fuzz on your vox (intentional??)

Overall, not really my cup of tea.....tiny bit too heavy ....but (disregarding the mix issues)....nicely played.....liked the lead in sailing away...........very much.......

(oh, and been playing for around 8 years...but I dont record myself - but have produced a couple of cd's for others here in the UK - just for the fun of doing it really....)

While it is some pretty good work, as in each individual instrument sounds great, I don't think it gels together that well.  Perhaps collaborate with another musician?

If its heavy I like it. You need a cleaner recording though.

Pretty much what these guys said.
vocals are barely legible.
Actually in "Pig Killer" they arent legible at all

you DO like your intros huh? LOL
Intros are a bit too long IMO

Kinda left me sitting here thinking  "Cmon, out with it already."

Growing up with a father who was into Classical,Jazz, and barbershop Quartet, a practically live in Uncle who was into Rock & Roll. And having a 19 year old son.
I've leard to appreciate all kinds of music (cept Rap,Hiphop and Opera) LOL

All i all not too bad.

Thank you guys i do appreciate it. Sometimes it takes an ear that hasn't heard it a million times. I'm aware of the hot mix, the vocals, the drums being real loud and such. Much of it is not meant to be a selling piece, just a demo, a placeholder untill something real can be done, just a representation of what it would sound like. I'll probably change all that. I'm hoping managers and labels would hear in it the possible finished product after some money has been thrown at it that i don't have.

I hear alot about the sound of it, what i'm wondering is, do the songs rock at all to you.

Thanks to you all again Ledpig :)

Sailing away I liked.......recording/mix needs work, but I dug that one. The other 2, too heavy for my old man taste fella.......if you have the base files, I can take a dig at sorting out some of the mix if you want........i can use soundforge to re-eq etc, reduce the volume, get rid of some of the issues.....no big deal if that dont suit ya tho m8...

"Do they rock"...

well I can;t really say. my personal tastes have gotten so out of whack I don't know how to explain what I like.

I listen to light FM, alternative, Megadeth, classical, I'm all over the place.

the newest rock type song I have found I really like is probably "Lit - My own worst enemy" LOL what is that like 5 years old or more.

I can't think of a single thing that has been released in "rock" in the past 5 years I even considered downloading, let alone buying. I will say everything today sounds like that kill myself song, umm... I think they say "losing my sight, losing my mind"

I hate that song so much I can't explain. and everything that has been released by almost anyone sounds just like it.

now your music does sound different than that, but I am not sure if it is my kind of music.
I don't know what to put here yet.
