how does a person in the military deal with divorce from in Iraq?

Like it not enough to your being shot at and dealing with someone trying to blow you up nearly every day. Trying to handle a divorce while your in Iraq seems a bit much IMHO.

Then even though you've tried to handle it and comply with the court orders you get home and go to jail???????????

The child support system, while necessary needs a major re-work. The system has gotten so out of hand it infringes on peoples basic rights.

Sure there are a lot of deadbeats out there, but there are many more honest, hard working, dads out there getting put though the grinder, by a vindictive ex and in many cases, an over zealous private company who has a contract with the local court system, trying to turn a buck.

It all goes back to dollars and cents. It is not what is best for the child, it is what is best for the city, county and state.

That is complete and total BS. To treat him like he was a rapist or murderer when he is obviously doing his best to comply AND serving his country. They wouldn't uncuff him so he could sign paperwork?? WTF was he cuffed in the first place?

I'm also disgusted the wife is getting "spousal support". She earns a paycheck for nothing?

Devil's Advocate:

After 2 years of nonpayment regardless of employment status, the man owes a pretty hefty chunk of change. also i imagine that custody was awarded to the mother because of said unemployment, but consider if the father had full custody and then was unemployed for 2 years.

perhaps the judge was a bit extreme by not allowing him to be uncuffed. but how would you get through to a hardened veteran? how do you make a man understand that just because he goes to the other side of the world doesn't mean time stops on his home side.

i did 5 years in the marines with about 1yr 3months sea time. coming back to collection agency phone calls is pretty much par for the course. but 12 large is some pretty hefty cheese anyway you slice it.

am i totally off base here?
