Skuzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzyyyy!
« on: October 16, 2007, 10:23:39 PM »
This has happened to me at least a dozen times in the past 4-6 weeks...

I'll make a slight adjustment to the gamma slider and AH freezes, followed by a reboot of WinXP Home. It only happens when I adjust gamma.

Anyone else experiencing this problem?

I adjust my gamma for darkness and run XP home. Can't recall an instance where AH froze.
I am also ram challenged with only 512Mb. I'm also sound challenged by using an onboard sound chip with a Waffle sound pack. I remember to lower sound hardware acceleration to 3/4 about 1/2 the time. Net challenged by using an onboard ethernet connection. With all those challenges, as I said I can't recall an AH freeze.
Far too many, if not most, people on this Board post just to say something opposed to posting when they have something to say.

A reboot happening when you try to adjust the gamma in the game would typically be driver related.

What video card do you have Max and what driver version?  Are you running with 'hardware vertext processing' enabled in the game's "Video Settings"?

If it is an infrequent event, it could be tied to another application leaving the video card driver in a bad state as well.

Skuzzy the laptop uses an integrated ATI Mobility 9600/9700. The drivers are Omega based and haven't been updated in a year+

I've added no new program applications and the problem didn't begin to occur until the new version release, a few months back.

Just seems odd that under the "nothing's changed on my end" situation, the issue began after an update.

I was just giving the most likely scenario.  Do you have auto-updates enabled in Windows?  Anti-virus programs running?

Will it do it after a fresh reboot and nothing else running?

Auto update is disabled. I always turn off spyware/anti-virus progs before logging on. I'll look for an Omega update and try FS Autostart to see if that helps.

Thanks for the input. Sorry about your Cowboys last Sunday :rofl

Not my Plowboys.  I was actually surprised the defeat was not worse.  I was expecting a 60-3 score, or something along those lines.

I expect a 3 game losing streak will occur now while they whine about this and that.

Changing to you vista config Skuzz has ended my "bombing short" syndrome. Before that there were days no matter what I did my bombs would always fall exactly the same amount short of the target. Now Im bombing much cleaner and getting better, and faster calibration times. In fact the entire game is running much better and Im not getting the skips and warps I did before. sir.

Heck I'm in St. Louis and we could only HOPE for only a 3 game losing streak!
