Are you prepared?

Sadly, no.

I used to be, when I lived in Tokyo and (another) apocalyptic earthquake was forever only a moment away.

Need to address that sometime soon.
... missions were to be met by the commitment of alerted swarms of fighters, composed of Me 109's and Fw 190's, that were strategically based to protect industrial installations. The inferior capabilities of these fighters against the Mosquitoes made this a hopeless and uneconomical effort. 1.JD KTB

Am I prepared? HA hell no. I live for today. If a natural disaster strikes all I need is my gun to fend of the crazy people.

While I haven't tested this theory I'm pretty confident that duct tape is nutritious.

I'm not sure I've got it covered.

House on wheels. Check
Huge tow vehicle (semi) Check
Motorcycle to get around with. Check
Satellite internet communications. Check
Cell phone. Check
Food for minimum of 2 weeks. Check.
Self contained water, heat, cooling, generator, bathroom. Check

Self defense tools. Check
Ability to use and knowledge of when and how to use survival tools. Check
Attitude. Check and double check.

I think I can hack it.

I think they made a movie about THAT :)

Ladies and gentlemen... proceed

I've got some food...some water...Yeah, clothes.

I try to keep a full tank of gas in the pickup.

Rifles, shotguns, pistols, Yeah, and ammo, too.

The problem is, No two disasters are the same. Natural disasters can be bad, I believe that Katrina was the worst in a long time. But, there are plenty of disasters that aren't natural.

A-bombs? If you dodge 'em, how long can you stand glowing for?

Massive civil unrest? Civil war? What's the best way to deal with that? Even a simple riot like the RK riots' is really hard to prepare for (You would want to add Concertina wire and sandbag fortifications to your Front yard.)

Food, water, First aid kit and manual/training are a good place to start, though...Those will be necesities in short supply. Also, the ability to hunt up more food/water should be on the list. Know where a source of fresh water is in your area(Stream, pond, etc.) Investing in a good-quality water purification system would be a good idea. Learn to avoid dangers that might occur (Ruptured gas mains, downed live electrical lines, Damaged structures that might collapse, etc. There's quite a few things to take into consideration, IMHO.

Indeed there are. If/when the ship hits the sand your survival will likely depend upon how well you considered those possibilities.

Here in Arkansas, we get some nearly burned out hurricanes (lived through Hurricane Fran in NC--power was out 10 days--I got menengitis from a mosquito bite)....but the worst threat is ice storms....BAD ones.  The last one in 2001 had power out 7 days.

To quote:

2 weeks worth of food - check (including guests)
first aid kit - check
knowledge of first aid - check, wife is a Nurse, RN, BSN, MICN
firearms - Getting one shortly, 45 cal
Insurance - check--(I am an AFLAC Agent)
Clothing - plenty
Water - not a problem
Heat - 1 cord of firewood, a Kerosene heater & 15 gallons of juice
Electricity - New home to be built with solar panels and a natural gas generator for full home need capacity

Room to help house up to 10 friends who aren't as lucky.

We'll be ready.

Well I live in North Dakota, so that takes a big load off my end right from the start.

We won't ever have a hurricaine up here. (Whew)

Tornado's, well other than get to shelter, and deal with whatever is left, not much you can do.

Flood, we bought this house in 96 when Fargo was under some flooding, and Grand Forks had major Fire & Water going on. We are on one of the few naturally high spots in the valley. In short, we are going to be among the last ones going down. Plus we have 3 kayaks so worst case situation we can make it out to high ground.

I have an alternative heat source rigged for burning corn/wood pellets. Enough to keep the house from freezing the pipes even with out natural gas/electricity. Covered on that end.

We have several containers of water that get cycled every so often. Plus in a worst case situation our 50 gal nat gas water heater would carry us for a while for drinking water.

Food, we could probably manage for 3 - 4 months without any outside aid.
Would help if electricity stayed on for a week or so. But even so, we have enough beans, rice, flour, sugar, and canned goods to manage quite nicely for a long while.
I started stockpiling staples for the Milenium, and we havn't quit, we just cycle things out. Example, if we buy a bag of sugar at the store, new one gets bagged, goes on shelf, old sugar comes out and gets used.

I know we currently have at least 25lbs of rice, 10lb's of beans. It may get old but beans & rice will keep you alive for a LONG long time if needed. Suppliment that with some of the canned fruit and veg's and we are in good shape.

Shotguns I have 3 and ammo for all. Also a .22 rifle and pistol with a couple hundred rounds. Should have more ammo for these.  Tools, we are in good shape, with full loadout of gear for camping/kayaking. If we need it, we have it.

Live for today, but plan for the worst. No gloom and doom, just common sense.
I grew up with 3 -4 day blizzards stacked up one behind the next. Getting out in those conditions just doesn't always happen. So best to have what you need on hand.

As to massive civil unrest, bar & board the windows and doors. Hunker down out of sight, sound, and smell, let it pass you bye. Anyone trying to break in would be dealt with quite harshly.

Food, water, firearms and ammo all in place.
We also have a few private planes standing by in preparation for " Operation Tulsa".
Shouldn`t be too hard to take as intel has it that most of the inhabitants will be standing on the north shore of the Red, looking south longingly.

DREDIOCK !!! How COULD you! They are like family!!! that is sooo bad. hahaha

I don't have guns... never liked having them near me. They are fun to shoot though. Got a bad shoulder bruise first time I fired a 12 gauge... ouch. So I do know how to shoot one.

But I have a beautiful pair of Japanese Katanas which were a present from my Japanese work friends. (only guys would think to give such a present, lol) They are deadly... and never need or run out of bullets hahaha We joke about them being Hitori Hanso after the movie Kill Bill came out.

I pick carefully where I live thus minimizing the chances of a serious disaster... above the flood level, but we all know S can and does H.

Having a network of friends is a cushion against that; works both ways.

Always keep a stock of two weeks food in reserve. Guy next door, single, heats only by firewood... so wont freeze... bit of a ding-dong though lol

My EX left one of his two way radios by mistake HAHAHAHAHA

Lots of small lakes around so water isn't a huge biggie.

NE gets quakes and tornados but always little ones... hurricanes are also pooped out by the time they get here... can get snowed in though... from Nor'easters. Those are exciting!

I have a gun safe... it is full of guns and ammo and always has a couple of grand cash.. I have insurance.

I have 3 cars and a motorcycle so... about 50 gallons of gas at all times plus a five or so of race gas.

I am not a picky eater... have a couple weeks of dried food and canned goods... water no problem.

If insurance and cash are not worth anything.... if it is that bad.. then the things that will be the most valuable are guns and ammo.   I might be able to scrounge up 5,000 rounds not counting 22's for a dozen or more calibers..  they will always be the most valuable trading stock in a disaster.

weather here is mild but I have a fireplace.

mav is correct tho... attitude is everything.
