Hey Worzal - good luck with the move.

Here's a few things to look forward to from a fellow Brit in CA:

1. Your first visit to DMV
2. Your first 'storm' (or 'light rain' as you'll know it).
3. The first time a large truck goes past and shakes your home - then realising there wasn't a truck...
4. California drivers
5. California road surfaces
6. Trying to work out 15-20% of every bloody restaurant bill.
7. Trying to say 'Cheeseburger and Fries' with just enough of a Spanish accent to be understood.
8. Realizing the letter 's' has been replaced by 'z' in the alphabet
9. Discovering 'foot' ball is something you play with your hands.
10. Electricity bills that are higher in the summer than the winter.

:D :D :D :D

Oh - and this is my favo(u)rite -

11. 360 days of sunshine a year!!!!

The crazy Yanks are kinda OK too :aok

PM if you want any hints or tips on making the big move. What visa are you coming over on by the way?

Cheers,
Wooley

I have talked to a lot of brits over the years who have come here.   They are having a ball..  most, oddly, have firearms.

The only unhappy ones I have ever met were a couple who were frustrated that they couldn't turn America into another england...  they couldn't understand why we didn't have more socialism.

MAC they have a very descriptive word in the Chinese language that fits "PLICK" !!
Gotta agree with Lazs if anyone wants it to be like England answer is to stay in England. It's different but not to a wild extreme, give it another 30 years and I think these rednecks around here may call me a local!!
I came over on the spousal visa as well after travelling over here numerous times while serving in RAF but there is a difference from being a tourist to actually living in the place.

I grew up in a 1960's all metal "trailer house". Eagler is correct, they are now "manufactured homes" and are leaps and bounds beyond what they were in quality. They're still crap, but they're higher quality crap than they used to be.
My mind is a raging torrent, flooded with rivulets of thought cascading into a waterfall of creative alternatives.
Stay thirsty my friends.

Dunno, I think a trailer in 29 Palms probably rates higher than the typical house in Fargo North Dakota. Trailer trash, only if you split the hairs REALLY fine!

WTG enjoy!

yep.. xbrit.. the english accent on an American of british decent is pleasant.. the accent of a liberal socialist brit is just gay.

I like the brits that are here for the most part.. they seem happy and outgoing and seem to enjoy the things that are well...  American..  Fun people to be around..  we have a scottish days celebration here at the fairgrounds and everyone has a good time...

You need a camaro (t-tops mandatory) to officially become trailer trash. Get cracking on it
I'm too wack for a sig. (Camaro, not just a car, it's a lifestyle.)

Definitely having a ball, and for the most part would much rather be here than 'over there'.

Unfortunately, trying to turn other countries into little replicas of Britain is a depressingly common trait of Brits abroad. Personally, I don't get it. The last thing I want to see when I go out is some grotty 'cafe' selling egg and chips and showing Eastenders on the big screen.

My Green Card got approved last week by the way, so you'all are stuck with me now.
