Field 'supply' limit
« on: October 31, 2007, 02:44:57 PM »
To move the actiona round a little bit and breakup the evil hoard eveyone always complains about.

How about a field supply limit?
Each field has X # of points.  Each time you take off from the field, your plane (or GV) based on its ENY will reduce the supply point pool.  Sucessfully landing your plane puts those points back in the pool.  The pool is resupplied similarly to fuel/ord/troops/etc...  Tie the supply points to the City perhaps?  Or add a new generic factory strat.  Make it manually resupplyable (not sure if that is even a word, but you get the idea) by goons and m3's using airfield supplies.

This would encourage people to actually attempt to land their plane, encourage them to fly away from the hoarde where the supply situation is a little bit better, and heaven forbid add a little bit realism (runs in fear of the "this is a game" crowd)  How many airfields had an unlimited supply of planes parked in their hangars?

So every time someone doesn't fly "smart" and rarely returns to his base (either because of lack of skill or simply because he doesn't care for his cartoon life) his fellow pilots do suffer - their airfield they are launching the attack from loses points.

Imagine all that yelling "stop wasting our resources" - which would be true for the first time! Could get really ugly on vox & countrychannel...

As long as not everybody is a pure win-teh-war player or "smart flyer" (like me ;)) I say:
Nice idea, but no, thank you.

Here's what would happen.   Large squads, planning to perform operations in a certain area, would have members switch countries and crash all the resources at the target areas.

This was done by squads in Air Warrior when ME262s were introduced in some arenas on a limited number of planes per field basis.

Heinous as it is.. it happened.

A field supply limit was always present within  AW terrain code.

The setting was applied to each plane at each field it permitted the use of X  planes over a Y period of time.

It could be used very effectively in scenarios and during "war nights"

Its use in the regular arenas was disastrous (scripts set {i think} to 0 and 0 removed the limit)

A much better control element was the zone limit. Which limited the number of ac that could be in flight from any origin field at any time. This could not be subject to such abuse as mentioned above.

It did cause missions (and larger squads) to be launched from rear fields to stop folk getting left behind by the zone limit.

It would (and did) break up hordes.

Nope.  You're assuming that one who would change countries would expect to return and fly with his own country.  Not always the case.

Some would do it for the greater good of the cause..

Others, just to be mean and upset the other country ( See HTC's quote about 'pissing the other guy  off' )

Then factor in multiple account holders..
