Ah, I've done the same thing and learned my lesson the hard way. This is such a beauty its worth the effort, though. One of the nicest first skins I've seen.

And listen to Guppy's advice - I don't think there's a better or more knowledgeable skinner's reference anywhere.

Gonna be a bit pickier too.

Looking closer at your screenshots. The rudder was not yellow at that point. While the black ETO band was on the tail the rudders were silver. When they went to squadron color rudders the ID band came off.

Your ETO bands on the horizontal tail look a tad thin and too far out on the tail.

And finally it appears your yellow and black checks are too big and not enough.

Look at this shot of the nose of 353rd CO Glen Duncan's bird. You can count the number of squares and where they fit on the nose for the first three rows.

Also note how the black stripes fit on the spinner a bit differently then yours

The CO's kite tended to be the most by the book with markings.

Thanks for the heads up Guppy! I'm changing it the hard way u discribed it, and i will repost it when ready.

BTW, im going to have a HARD time merging those checkerboards again lol.

EDIT: is it just me or does it look WAY more better with the yellow tail/ invasion stripes?

Gotta be true to the history.

Knew I had this in my stuff somewhere. Took me a while to find it.

Note that the profile's anti-glare is way too green. But it does show the layout of the ID bands better. There is a single kill marking below the canopy btw

I think the painting with the full invasion stripes on the wing and the blue ID recognition bands is very nice looking. So did the artist, I guess, which is why he took such artistic license in his depiction.

Better to be true to history though.

btw, you can lift the "Dallas Doll" nose art right out of Guppy's posting and start with that for your nose art, rather than trying to find a similar font.

Interesting that it's on both sides of the nose, I think.

Just to say it one more time.

There was NEVER a 353rd FG P51 Mustang with full invasion stripes. They were flying Jugs until September 44.

Full Invasion stripes were carried into early July 44 when they came off the uppper wing and fuselage on all Allied birds. By September they came off the underwing of the 8th AF birds. You can still find them on 9th AF birds after this under the wings, but they were ground attack birds so it made more sense.

Dallas Doll never had wing invasion stripes, no matter what the artist thought.

Motley, thats MusP51, a guy with a simular kind of name, i've seen him a couple of times in H2H but thats not me. Seems he also digs p51's like i do

Guppy, thanks so much for all these pictures, and especially that 3D kind of photo. It took me 15 minutes to create this

Its far from done still, but it looks like i got the basis on the skin, i gotta work on the merge's and get some shadow/dirt on it.

Its nearing finish, some little changes to be made and then its ready for use.
