HI Just wanted to drop a note to anyone who feels that thier gunnery is bad and not getting better. Alot of Combat flying is mental, mostly your mental state, if you are relaxed and in the zone you will do well if you try to hard you will not. So keep trying but enjoy yourself.
The other day I went up in a 109k and killed 3 guys one was a perfect reversal followed buy a nice clean kill. The second was a snap shot at his nose as I pulled away from the first kill, one 30mm and he blew up. The third was trying to BnZ me and I got lucky when he began to turn and fight after I evaded him, bled his E and got a shot. So with most of my ammo still intact and my gas running low a went home. Then there was last night...
I chased a P51 with him between 400-600 and emtied my magazines in nice clean short bursts, I think I pinged him a few times. ( ran home on the deck). Then I went after some Lancs I heard about got above them and did a nice dive into them at thier 7 o'clock (ussually a good spot for me letting me straff all three as I pass) I think I hit one with my mg's, second pass no better but now I am hit and ran home bleeding.
So what was the differance? Luck? maybe, it is possible that I just suck and got lucky one day :-). But the good day I was totally focused on flying and relaxed and having a ball (yes even befor I was killing anything I shot at). The bad day was after a long frustrrating day of everything going wrong, even though I was having fun flying I could not do well.
SO relax and enjoy your flights and don't beat yourselves up for having a bad day. Good gunnery comes with practice, consistant gunnery comes with attitude. (Some of us get an attitude when we gun good hehe)
