One more thing.

If you get a new computer with Vista, you can't load XP on it. they are not making XP drivers for the new equipment.  You can try and gather all the drivers but good luck.

Doomed, We're all doomed.  Vista defines POS.

Windows XP Pro will continued to be supported until 2014.  Drivers are still being done for Windows XP.

If you have a dual core AMD CPU, and are running Vista, you have to set the game to run in "Windows 98/ME" compatibility mode due to bugs with Vista/AMD CPU's.  Intel dual-core CPU's are fine under Vista.

Drivers for some of the components are supported for XP.  But that doesn't help in a laptop for instance.

When I put XP on a new laptop it wouldn't even start with a new copy of XP.  You have to find a way to put the drivers on before you can start it.  But first you have to chase down every driver.

Laptops, you are stuck with whatever the manufacturer will give you.  But, most OEM's still offer XP as an option, even if iti s not listed, you can ask for it.  If they chose not to supply it, then that is thier choice.

OEM's are not being forced to not ship XP Professional.  If they do not offer, it is thier choice.

running vista on my new computer.  Seems to be doing ok:
E6550 Core2 Duo 2.33 gh/1333 FSB
2 gig DDR2 SDRam
320 g hd
20 inch widescreen monitor
X52 with the Beta SST software.  Ony problem here was a repeating key when I tried to program bands without a null band.  That has been fixed.

Aces High runs with no problems I can tell, other than pilot error.  I'll keep watching .  (Tried to get it with XP, but Dell wouldn't give me the sale price - $150 off - unless it came with VISTA.  Interesting, eh?)

I've had good luck supporting myself with LINUX on laptops, and running AH1 and AH2 within the "Cedega" DirectX emulator. Of course, I can't expect Skuzzy or AH to support me in this (hence "supporting myself"). I've found that this is easiest to set up on a laptop with nVidia 6000 or 7000 series hardware. With the newer nVidia 8000-series hardware it can still be done, but I had to manually install the latest nVidia drivers instead of letting the Linux repositories do it for me the easy way.
