XP and laptop ?
« on: November 12, 2007, 07:11:57 PM »
So my wife bought a Dell Insprion 1501 and it's great except she got it with windows vista wich ran at the speed of smell on this thing.

I convinced her to down/up grade to windows XP because it will run faster......wich it does.

I installed windows XP pro w/ SP2 on here and now every time we shut the thing instead of going into standby it restarts.  Is this a system setting or do I maybe have an error in the install.  I allready checked the CP and it says the profile is for a laptop.  My question is, is there a setting in there that I overlooked to make it go into standby when you close it?

There's BIOS upgrade available here
which fixes 'resume' function.

I'll suggest downloading and installing chipset drivers too...

flashed the bios and no joy.  It's really annoying that the computer restarts every time you close the lid

In the power settings menu somewhere, there should be a setting "on display close, do..."  There should be options for standby, hibernate, shut down, or do nothing.

I set it to "f%^&$&%^king do nothing until I tell you to do something you irritating little piece of crap!"

I follow that up with threats.  Opening up your window and dangling it out (ala wacko jacko parenting tip #69) seems to help get the point across, but maybe I'm just imagining that.

Go into power settings.  I find it by going to screensaver.  In any case, go to the advanced tab under power options properties.  On my computer, the setting is under the "power buttons" area.
