What is your toughest Bomber to shoot down ?
« Reply #15 on: November 13, 2007, 11:03:53 AM »
KI-67s ARE fairly tough. The problem with them is that the gunners are very easy to kill. Last night I took out a 262 but then lost to a 109 cause the only gunners left alive were in the waist. Thats happened to me a lot more then in any other bomber.

So I'd put the KI-67 just a little notch under the 26 and 17. Ive had the B-26 get me home on a spit and a prayer.

:aok  Bombrich in a Ki67 flying mach 2 and spitting lead like he is manning a mini gun.  Is the toughest for me.
The rules are simple:  Don't be a dick.

If I have a choice I leave the B-26's alone unless they are the only group. That tail gun shoots so low you'd swear it had a belly gun, also they are so fast around 10 to 15k. Easy to shoot down, if you can catch them would be the ar-234's but again unless your in the correct possition they'll run away from you. Ki-67's again if kept up around 15k or so you'll have a tough time either catching or keeping up with them but even with that 20mm in the dorsel turret I don't fear em like I do the -26's. The B-24 and Lancs are about even and usually account for most of my buff kills in a month. -24's I'll aim for the wing root cause they light on fire so easily where as I tend to go for the outer wings on the Lanc's cause that is what I've found as their week spots. The B-25 is just awfull, howly cow are they slow and just meat for the taking. B-17's as far as I'm concerned, come in from anywhere on the 180 degree arc infront of the wing. Also the verticle tail seems to come off quite easy and its fun to watch a drone try to keep formation minus the stab, they'll stay put untill the lead makes any course adjustment. The-88's too are just free kills unless you find yourself in a silly spit or hurritard Mk.1 then I'd give the advantage to the -88's. Lastly the Bostons are also easy kills if your in the correct possition cause they are very fast and will outrun most chasers.

In descending order:

B17s   Hate them.  I usually won't attack alone, unless I've had a few beers.

B26s   Nearly as bad.  I will attack alone.  Best to come at them from below.

KI67s  Those darn cannons.  Otherwise they would be easy prey.

B24s  Hit an engine, set it on fire, wait for him to die.  Just be patient and you can kill an entire formation easily.

Lancs, B25s and Ju88s are just plain easy to kill.

Just finished reading Adolf Galland's book.  Hitler was obcessed with bombers.  He looked on fighters as defensive weapons and bombers as offensive.  Hitler wanted to be on the offensive, even when reality dictated otherwise.

Hitler had a cow when he learned the 262 was designed without bombing capability.  Demanded that it be modified.  He allowed one "fighter" 262 to be delivered as a "bomber" was delivered.  What a fool.  I'll have to check on it, but I don't think any of the bomb capable planes saw action.  Someone may correct me on that point.

Well, seeing as I can't get my K/D over 2 then I would have to say that any bomber is tough for me.

None of them.  With 2x30mm + 2x20mm + 2x13mm the wings come off just the same.
I edit a lot of my posts.  Get used to it.

Any fighter with a 4 cannon package is bad news for a bomber stick. Its extremely unusual for me to survive unscathed from such an airplane. The normal tally, if its one on one, is I'll lose 1 or 2 bombers before I can put him down.

On occasion, against such and adversary even on one pass, Ive been thrown out in open air, 15,000' up, with all 3 bombers blowed up.:cry

With all things being equal four cannon fighters like the 190, Hurricane llc, Tempest, 262...ect are almost always going to draw blood. I dont care how tough the bomber is. The FW190A-8 is a particular terror cause not only is it heavily armed but the stick doesn't have to be concerned with running out of ammo it is loaded with so many bullets.

Guys like 999 can lead and fire bomber guns on instinct and Im only just approaching that level. And it took hours in the TA to even get there. And again, there is that one stat that there are no stats for. The one where a bomber is tough enough, and the stick is good enough, to damage a incoming and force him to run to a nearby airbase for emergancy put down. I say "nearby" because we are always much farther from ours "airbases" then they are to theirs. Many times we are actually right "over" their base.

We consider that a "victory" too, even if there are no stats for it. We "damage" far more then we "kill" but dont have the means to follow and finish off. There are some tremendously efficient bomber hunters in this game and we need every edge we can get. A "tough airplane" is the most important I believe.

i agree about the B-25 being easy,  first time i had a buff dive at my M-16 i put my sight on his nose and opened up on him and before i knew it he exploded but his last rounds found there mark at the same time so we killed each other.  i didnt think id be able to do that with the M-16.

Mussie, Rich46, Nobaddy....I just get lucky sometimes!
Obviously my perspective is the B17 is one tough bird..that is well suited for any Bombing run ....if your hitting hangers, clearing the sky, hitting gv's, or knocking towns down on the deck with the guns..its my first choice. The B17 is only my second  or third choice when it comes to sinking CV's.
I would like te B24 but the rear turret has an obstruction that I can't seem to be able to shoot around..an as many have said Burns..baby does it Burn!
B24 also seems to lose gears...I have NEVER lost a gear in a B17.
B26 is an awsome plane..Tatertot's favorite.....a bit more ammo seems just as tough as a B17...and the Speed of I will save you frequently. Yes it doesn't have a ball gun but with its speed a good pilot can put most enemy fighters in the death zone quite easily. Best to think Boom and zoom here. Flying level as enemy fighters attack from the 12 position will get you killed in a B26. A B17 is a great platform for level bombing going full zoom on the guns and letting your SA take over.
I love the Ki67 for base defence... come out of the hanger with 25% fuel and that Cannon nothing jumps in the air quicker and swats flies quicker!
Not the easiest but the most fun way to sink a CV is with the JU88 and its torps..gotta line the cv up on the Bow and get in CLOSE!!!!!!!!!!!!
ok I talking to much.....
BTW very nice job of 6gun and Lippy and others last night taking my B17 group down it was an awsome attack...I felt just like a moose being hunted by a pack of wolves...a very patient calculating attack ..piece by piece they took me a part..felt like I was bleeding to death..VERY NICE WORK 999000
