HTC...Help me on the MATH
« on: November 15, 2007, 04:22:59 PM »
OK...in our simulated cartoon cockpit world, one square on the map is SUPPOSED to be 25 miles from one side to another.

In my plane...going 400...

It takes me like 16 minutes to get from one side of a square to the other.

If a square is 25 miles...at 400 miles an hour...shouldn't it take about four minutes to travel 25 miles at that speed?

So....are the squares really far larger than 25 miles, or am I not really going 400 in my plane?

Help me on the math here HT...

Thanks

I'm gonna guess something is way off in your calculations, I've never taken 16min to cross a single grid square, hell I bet in 16min I could cross a grid square in a Jeep.

Yeah man, the throttle is the one that makes it go.
... missions were to be met by the commitment of alerted swarms of fighters, composed of Me 109's and Fw 190's, that were strategically based to protect industrial installations. The inferior capabilities of these fighters against the Mosquitoes made this a hopeless and uneconomical effort. 1.JD KTB

Many of the aircraft will not even remain airborne at the 93.75 mph required to transverse only 25 miles in 16 minutes of flight...

EDIT-> Especially at higher altitudes, where your IAS would need to be even lower in order to maintain a TAS of 93.75 mph!!

Just for grins I just did an offline test and the results were as expected...

Altitude 60ft so TAS and IAS were pretty much equal. Full throttle, up to full speed (306mph) in a 110G2..

25miles in 5 minutes.

If you flew from corner to corner, it wouldn't be 25 miles.

I don't think. :p Head's too gone for that math right now.

Correct, it would be 35.355 miles.

At 400 miles per hour, you would traverse a sector in this many minutes:

25/400  X  60  =    1/16   X    60 =  3.75 minutes...or   3 minutes 45 seconds.

Forgotten, but back in the game.  :)
