That's the exact opposite of what I was saying Shuffler.
No matter how good your parenting is, you can't stand beside them and hold their hand every single step they take. Even at ages 5 and 6, I venture to say that it's acceptable for parents to be in different rooms of the house than the children with the full expectation that the children aren't going to get into too much trouble.
Dangerous items should be kept out of reach by the children. But no matter how much effort a parent puts into that, there's always going to be an instance where those items get into the hands of kids.
