From what Ive run into in trying to get AHII working at its best Intel is the only way to go but I dont think HTC will 'officially' tell you that.
If you like the Sick Puppy Custom Sound Pack the please consider contributing for future updates by sending a months dues to Hitech Creations for account "Chalenge." Every little bit helps.

Yes roger they are a big leap from a single processor and are dirt cheap in the UK right now.

Quad core one retailing around £160  wish it was that cheap in Feb this year when i upgraded!    thats   4 x 2.4ghz

I bought the  e6600 for £220    thats 2 x 2.4ghz   price now is  £143!

You will need a motherboard that has a LGA775 socket   all of the duo chips are LGA775.

Is easy to install yourself.

Does work with XP fine.

I'm glad this came up!

I was just given a box with a dual core intel cpu(3.049). (dell dimension 8200)
(thanks ZOOMAIR!)
It has 1gig memory in it (using all the slots) but the memory is the expensive rdram?

also the board has an AGP 4x slot on it :(

Q1 are there boards available for the dual core that use the regular (sdram?) memory
or is the rdram so much better that I will be happy with 1 G of it instead of 2 G the other  (Im guessing its pc800)

Q2 will I be able to find a board with either 8x AGP or pci-e for it?(it has a 4600ti in it now)
I have either a 8x agp nvidia 6800 to put in

or I have 2 pci-e 7800 gtx's to stick in (I'm guessing the 2 7800s would be much more fun)

(my first move will be to put the 6800 in it as is .. I think that will be a substantial upgrade for my AH experience)

My current AH box is an AMD 3200+ single core
w/ 2Gig of memory (at 333 because of a mismatch )
6800 nvidia 8x agp

Advice will be much appreciated

;)

That CPU is not a dual-core CPU.  It is the old Hyper-Thrreaded (HT) CPU.  A pseudo dual-core CPU.

I am not awar of any current generation motherboards using RDRAM.  They are using either DDR1, DDR2, or DDR3 RAM.

There were some hybrid AGP/PCIE slot motherboards around for a while.  Not sure if there still are.  AGP is disappearing fast.

i dont think each chip runs at that ghz, i belive the total is 2.4 gig but i could be wrong.

i run a 3.2 duel core, soon will be upgrading to a quad with higher bus, that is where the key is at, the bus speed and the cache really make the difference.

and yes it works fine with xp i am running home edition to keep things simple.

and yes agp is pretty much gone its all pci express now

a good board to select is a asus p5n-e SLI it will accept upcomming intel bus speeds and has SLI and pretty much is a powerhouse

AHHA

Thanks

I did some looking around and boards are very hard to find for this.

(do they burn the old boards or just stop advertising them?:lol )

Think I'll just swap the video cards and see if I get any noticeable improvement.

Each core runs at the rated speed.  It is not an aggregate speed.  The E6600 has a 1066Mhz FSB.  I think the E6850 has a 1333Mhz FSB.

Please tell me that the AMD 6000 duo core will work superbly with AH, cause I ordered one that will be here Monday or Tuesday. Btw, It was about 130 bucks cheaper than the intel.
