Need old Windows ME stories...
« on: November 19, 2007, 03:35:06 PM »
Yeah...  Looking for old Windows ME horror stories.
Funny ones would be nice...

Haven't had much luck with Google.
And seeing as how I went pretty much from... 95 to 98... to XP... I never got to deal with ME.
(A good thing, or so I hear.)

So, anyone willing to cough up some?

Be greatly appreciated.

Worst for me, had a customer order 3 new machines back around 2000. They asked for Windows ME, said a software vendor insisted. They were running Windows 98 so it wasn't unreasonable but I asked them if they were sure, they insisted. I got a call from the person that ordered them a few days after I delivered and configured the machines. She said, "these don't have windows 2000". I told her, "no, you asked for Windows ME". She thought they were the same thing. Sigh.

Funnily enough...

I ran W-ME and even played various games on my ME platform. I had an Asus mobo (with Asus mobo drivers) and everything worked just fine. I never had a spot of trouble with W-ME!

I ran ME on my first computer. Never had an issue, though it only had a few weeks of internet access before I switched to XP.

Eskimo... I'm really tempted to take that offer...  Really, really tempted.

PM me or something, I might just save up a little for it.

It seems most of you guys didn't have that many problems with it...  :)

Hands down the worst OS MS ever put out.  Yes, even worse than Bob.

I had several clients that had ME and one of the most common problems was that the thing would never shut down.  Once you unplugged it and turned it back on you would have to sit there forever before the desktop came back up.

I can't tell you how many ME computers we had to format and reload the OS on because of corrupt registry’s.

Those who had no trouble probably didn’t have them in a network environment.

GAAAH, I still have nightmares!

I installed WME during Sophomore year of college because I was young and stupid. It never did last longer then 3 weeks before I couldn't get the damn thing to shut down and needed to reformat.

Guess thats why they call Sophomores "wise fools".

That pretty much describes ME

Sorry, no W-ME stories but there is this one YouTube (posted before) video that tells why Windows Vista sucks.

"Culling the worst from Window CE, Windows ME and Windows NT, we code named the new project Windows CEMENT. The fist operating system specifically designed to sink employee moral and weigh computers down like a stone. The result was VISTA-- an operating system so overblown we've chopped it up into six different versions. None of which work. Not until you've spent hundreds of more dollars on equipment upgrades..."

Plus as an added extra bonus: "Why MACs suck." (Also posted before.)
Warning: Couple of F-bombs in this one.

"MAC killed my inner child."

Sorry for the hijack, couldn't find any ME stuff.

I just recently graduated High School... I had a computer class my Junior year...   We had to do a few things on Macs, oh good lord.  I grew up with Windows, first time I had ever used one.

Never before in my life had a computer made me feel so stupid... Not even getting shot down in CFS1 made me feel that slow...

I don't mind the Hijack, really, heck, if need be turn this into a thread about pumkin pie, as long as you can relate it to ME in some awful way, I don't really mind.  :lol

To just go ahead and say it, I plan on pulling a joke on some of my... more... techno-savy friends... that is going to involve me putting ME on a computer with decent specs.  And actually using it for stuff.  Most of the games I own 'work' on ME.  Aces High, IL2, Star Wars Galaxies, World of Failcraft, pretty much all the games I want to play run on it.

By no means am I getting rid of my XP though, I plan on upgrading it some as well, for something a bit more... reliable...  I suppose.  :noid
