A better one, one that I actually can DIE in. With the 234 it's just so fast the only way to die in it is if you purposly fly slow, or you somehow run into a 262.

You seem to forget that once at 30k, interceptors such as the 190, can barely climb at all (we couldnt get our G14's up to 30k in DGS... they just wouldnt climb anymore).

Anyone with patience enough to climb to 30,000' in B-29s deserves to be almost invulnerable. Properly flown ME-262s are practically invulnerable. In real life the B-29 at 30,000' was practically invulnerable.

One solution would be to introduce jet stream effects that high to make hitting targets more difficult.

You dont think it would be fun to have a "show down at the hoe-down" between Mr. B and the 262?

What purpose would this serve if it ended your sortie?

I was thinkimg of immersion.   Just seems gamey to me to pop out to the tower after landing and then pop back onto the the runway in a brand new plane in a few seconds.   Plus, the pucker factor in taxiing your plane to a hangar and waiting while repairs are implemented - if you're at a front line base it could be under attack any second.

Hitech said in a thread he'd consider implementing it as long as it ended the sortie.   Made sense to me-- in real life, didn't landing back at base end a sortie?   If you refueled and went out again, it was counted as your second sortie of the day, wasn't it?

I think I get what you mean tho- I just wasn't thinking about it in a scoring sort of way.

S!

I don't want to sound disrespectful, just confused.

I'm not quite sure I understand the purpose either if it ended your sortie...there wouldn't be much difference between the system now and that one except it sounds more painful.

You would have to land, taxi to an area for repair, taxi out then take off.  Seems easier to just land and grab a new plane.  And I'm not sure why one would want to wait for repairs to be implemented if they can land and get in a new plane instantly which is ready to go.

I think it would also create a problem of people just hording near the repair hanger and blowing up planes as they sit there waiting for repairs...easy targets easy way to rack up kills.

I do get the point, but I just don't think it would work quite right as there are no real benefits to getting repairs besides taking more of your time up and making you a sitting target.  The only way I could really see this working is if it DID NOT end your sortie, in which you could in a way extend your sortie, then people might be inclined to use it.

If I found myself above a b29, I'd attack it with a goon if I had to.

No disrespect taken at all, Golden.   I like thinking about and discussing these proposals.   In fact, your thoughts have made me realize just how damaging Hitech's suggested sortie-ending condition would be to the idea for most people.    I hadn't really thought about it critically before; I was just keyed that he seemed to be considering the idea.

Immersion factor is important for me, so I was looking at it only from that narrow perspective.    You've captured the gist of it perfectly right here:

Interestingly, a few people have objected to the repair hangar idea as "too gamey".   These people have it exactly backwards, I think.   Landing, grabbing a new plane and taking off immediately is what's gamey.

You might be right, too, about it causing congestion and creating a target-rich environment (actually, that sounds pretty good!).   I don't think that many people would end up using it at the same time, but one way to ease congestion is to make repair capability available at any standing hangar on the field.    I think a lot of people would just tower out though, if there was a long wait or an attack got too hot.    Probably, multiple planes could be serviced simultaneously at the same hangar, the way it is with refuel/rearm pads.    Might be easier to code that way.

The idea still appeals to me, though, and who knows - maybe its more appropriate for Combat Tour or scenarios.

In the end though, I think you're right - the sortie-ending condition would pretty much kill the reason to use it for most players.   I think I rememebr Hitech saying that's the only way he could see coding it, so this one might be DOA.

Wonder if, instead of ending your sortie, it just costed perks?

wish list?

1. Range text...like range vox

2. someway other than AR234 to spend bomber perkies

3. Radar that differentiates between single aircraft and Bombers formation

4. Altitude indication in the radar

5. friendly gv indication on the radar screen when in gv's

6. On base status screen...% of fh's damaged

7. Base ack loses accuracy when radar destroyed

8. Increased importance of strat targets
