More exact Bomber datas??
« on: November 21, 2007, 03:56:24 AM »
Hello,

iam looking for B17G, B24 and B26 speed datas.

All i can find are speeds in high altitude, while i would like to know what Speed the Bombers had at sea level and as many other heights as possible.

The fighter comparison page is a nice soure, unfortunately the bombers are not included.

What i find stange is that most B17G datas show a Vmax in 25k alt of 260-270mph, while the cruise speed shal be 150mph at same altitude.

I wonder if the cruise speed is in IAS, while the Vmax is a TAS value, cause 150mph IAS are only around 100mph TAS in 25000ft. what is cclose to stall speed. And the different between Vmax and cruise speed looks a bt big anyway.

Thanks for any information/clarification regarding this.

Greetings,

Knegel

150 mph IAS is more like 225 mph TAS or so at 25K

You probably wanted to say that 150 TAS is around 100 IAS ;)

Also remember that max speed was usually for light a/c and the cruise speed was to keep all a/c in formation.

how about right-clicking the aircraft in the hangar clipboard and select "speed chart" or check it here - or am I misunderstanding the question?
