Can someone explain the AH F4U-1C to me please?  Unlike other F4Us I encounter, the 1C appears to be able to do anything it wants and any speed.  It appears to be able to reverse almost within the diameter of it's own wing span, even in a flat stall, even when piloted by a poor pilot.  Was it really a helicopter in real life?

Take one huge engine, strap it to a giant wingspan with full flap down and you can do amazing things.  Also add to that landing gear that can be deployed at 400 or so mph for instant slowdown power.

On the flip side if you die to an F4 doing this (they _all_ can do it) you are not paying enough attention to your and his E state.  Keep away and above them and they are ****ed and have to respond to anything you do.

715,

You ran into one of the exceptional Hog sticks. They just happened to be flying the Charlie that day, but guaranteed they can do the same in any other model. In fact, they'd be even more dramatic in a bird like the 1A, because the C loses a bit of performance due to weight of the 20mm.
Ron White says you can't fix stupid. I beg to differ. Stupid will usually sort itself out, it's just a matter of making sure you're not close enough to become collateral damage.

Actually, the guy's rank was something like 2800.

I'll take your word that all AH F4Us can do this; I guess it is just chance that I've never encountered a non C version that did.  (Or maybe I just can't remember it, being old and senile ;) )

It's just that when seeing them extend level for a few hundred yds and then reverse instantly in place... it just doesn't seem like a bazillion ton plane should be able to do that.

Rank doesn't mean much in this game. Overall rank is negatively impacted if you never fly one type of sortie (I almost never fly Buffs, and rarely do GVs, and it significantly reduces my overall score) so don't base how good a guy is based on their rank.

The F4Us are remarkable birds. Yeah, they're heavy (However the F6F, P-47 and P-38 all outweigh her by varying degrees) however don't underestimate her ability to maneuver. The flaps are the best of any ship in the game, and she maintains strong rudder authority at higher airspeeds than the majority of the plane set (great way to get the drop on guys in the vertical who think the F4U can't maneuver with them like that, kick the rudder hard and watch that big nose flop over into a shooting solution).

They can't.

OH OH OH
Don't forget the 20mm's of death please :]

The F4u-1c is less manuverable than any other corsair there, due to it's weight.
Any decent 1c stick can easily make up for this loss of turn with flaps, and once the flaps come out, it's a beast, but, it's manuverability is relativly low for a corsair.
Just has big guns :]
good plane.

I mostly use it for Jabo for that reason. 1D may have an extra two pairs of rockets, but I think the guns help make up for it.
