No sound from my aircraft
« on: November 15, 2007, 10:18:09 PM »
I recently upgraded from XP to Vista Home Premium and since then have been unable to hear any sound from my own aircraft engine. Guns firing from my aircraft sound good as do the sounds of other aircraft and GVs.

The 'Sound' folder of AH2 only contains one file - 'cleaned.txt'.
The game appears to run well apart from this problem but it is not as much fun flying a silent aircraft.
I have reloaded AH2 several times with the same result each time.

My computer is dual core with 1G ram and a 7950 GT PCX card.

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

first off its a DOWN-GRADE to go from XP to Vista, and why would you do that ??:huh

You could go through the sticky post at the top of the technical Support  section of threads. There is a LONG on going post all about tips and solutions to Vista's huge list of problems.

Good luck !

Have you been able to get any sounds at all?
Even outside of AHII?
If not then Vista probably does not support your sound card.
bummer

I checked through the forum for my problem before posting and could not see a cure for this- although I may have missed something.
I clicked XP compatibilty on  and turned off file sharing

SD 67-  thanks for the reply. Other sounds from within AH work well, I can hear the sounds of other aircraft engines on the runway as well as GVs and the sound of my own cannons. These all sound good and the game runs well.
It is just the sound of my own aircraft engine which is just not there.

check to see if it is turned up on the game volume controls via options on clipboard, each sound can be individually set.

Thanks SD67, I had already checked that but still no joy.
Where are your sound files located?
My folder for 'Sounds' in the  AH2 folder just shows 'Cleaned.txt' but all other sounds work except for my own aircraft.
I have reloaded several times on different drives (including C) but it does not help.

you might want to download one of the sound packs and install it, maybe that will bring it back

Thank you 'The Fugitive', I had not thought of that.
I downloaded sounds from Wooly and USRanger and they did not seem to work until I disabled SPDIF and now all is working well and sounding good.

I thought I had tried all different possibilities with the sound card etc. but missed SPDIF.
Thanks to all who offered help.

Hawk55, I went to Control panel/Hardware and sound/Manage audio devices/Sound/SPDIF/and selected disable SDPIF.

My system has Vista Home Premium and an onboard Realtek sound card.
I am no guru and the above  may not be why, but since I did that my sound has worked OK.
