New PC idea - reviews, suggestions, input needed
« on: November 25, 2007, 12:01:09 PM »
I am going to be putting together a new computer for Christmas and I wanted to get some feed back and suggestions.  Right now I am thinking about the following components:

Antec Nine Hundred Black Steel ATX Mid Tower

ABIT IP35 LGA 775 Intel P35 Motherboard

ASUS EN8800 GTS/HTDP GeForce 640MB 320-bit GDDR PCI Express x16 Video Card

OCZ GameXStream OCZ700GXSSLI ATX12V 700W Power Supply

Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 Kentsfield 2.4 GHz CPU

Crucial Ballistix 2 GB  (2 x 1 GB) DDR2 800 SDRAM

Seagate Barracuda 7200 RPM SATA 3.0 Gb/s 250 GB HDD

Lite-On 20x DVD+/-R DVD Burner

Of course, this does not include mouse, keyboard, etc.

I will be installing Windows XP Pro at this point (because Vista seems to be the "Windows Me" of the 21st Century).

I am also considering a 19in CRT Monitor, but if anyone knows of a good LCD, Let me know.  By good I mean reliable, high frame rates and good color display.  Or, if you know a good CRT in the 19" variety, please let me know as well.

Other than that, what do you think of the above selection?  Keep in mind this will be it for probably three years.

Thanks and cheers!

Should work good! looking to build one similar to that as a server. I used Antec cases until recently when I switched to aluminum cases.
