FR loss..wassup?
« Reply #15 on: November 27, 2007, 04:49:14 PM »
All I can say is WOW!  This is the first I heard of this.  What a crock.  All I can respond with is "What's the number for Verizon?"

Speaking of which, I live in a beta test area for Verizon FIOS.  My neighbor recently got it and I had to check it out.  The difference between it and Comcast was like the difference between a garden hose and Niagra Falls.

What do you know about FIOS as it relates to AH2?

Thanks,

I have FIOS at home.  Seems fine.  It's all about where you are physically located.  I would suspect some areas to be better than others.

All I know about the Comcast fiasco is every since Comcast went nation wide with this monitoring/filtering system, all our Comcast clients have been having some type of trouble.

I live about 10-15 miles NE of Philly, for what it's worth.

I may soon have a "one nation, under verizon" household.  Land line (for office), three cells, right now.   I guess I'll need to round it out with Verizon TV and internet soon.  I never liked Comcast since they came into this area and "monopolized" the cable industry.

Geeeez Louise. :rofl
Was trying to help get to the bottom of a problem that is effecting many.
Stated a belief or a theory in one post, asked a question about the internet in another.
Not in the research business.
Just forget I brought it up if it`s gonna cause mass confusion.
I`m sure it will work itself out.

First of all, my manties never get in a wad.  I am trying to help.  I feel like I am beating my head against the wall as I keep telling people the server does not have anything to do with your local frame rates and people keep coming in here telling me it does.

Stutters/pauses/freezes are almost always resource related problems.  I have a full sticky post in this forum dedicated to that very subject.  I went into a good deal of of detail describing it and how to deal with it.

Internet connection related problems are a different matter.  They can manifest themselves in delays for comms, warps, and other minor ways.

Telling the difference between the two can be difficult.  In the case where it is Internet related, the whole game is not effected.  Portions or it are.  Delays in text or voice updates are a clue.  Wapring planes are a clue when nothing else is delaying.

When the game freezes/pauses/stutters in its entirety, then that is a resource issue of some type.

Identifing the problem is the first step towards fixing it.  For Internet related issues, ping plots are very helpful.  For resource issues, a DXDIAG output along with the current settings of the game are helpful.  Actually, for resource related issues you can do a quick test yourself.

Try changing the "Maximum Texture Size" in the "Video Settings" to 128 and running the game.  If the pauses/stutters clear up, then you know where the problem lies.

Just FYI, as of this moment, with over 400 players logged into the new server, it is running 95.8% idle.  Yes, using less than 5% of the CPU's with over 400 players logged in.

Level3 again.  Here is what I get when I trace back to your IP address Jackal.  I did test it from the WEB server to make sure the IP address is reachable as well.

Skuzzy, as the resident geek at my office, I tend to find that 90% of computer issues (at least in my experience) are the result of a PEBKAC error.

That actually explains a LOT about the past 2-3 years (the time I've had Comcast) and the crappy quality of gaming I've had ever since moving from dial-up....

Sad... Very sad... Too bad they have a monopoly over most of Denver's broadband Internet access.
