ive got a book with heavily researched german RLM color swatches made from origional elements and chemicals from recipes used at the time and have been planning to scan them to a disk so I can use them on my own LW skins as a direct on screen reference. but I dont have a scanner and need to go get them scanned to disk profesionally to get the maximum accuracy possible though certainly some of it is lost in translation.

even with this the colors on screen are subject to interpretation of what does and does not look good. if it looks good its good enough if its near to being accurate.

research rlm 76 for more info on the color from various sources and see which one works best. if you use color swatches online dont trust them. use them as a reference and go from there with your own version of the color.

Mus, you still have a grey section in the middle of the black band that sits directly behind the prop spinner, your last picture shows it clearly.

To help with the RLM 76, check this site out

>Simmer's Paint Shop (link)<

I use this as one of my references when it comes to colours, it's a good site and labels the RGB vaules for the colours as well as displaying swatches.

Hope that helps,

Regards,

Archaius.

Hey, right now the colors are between this and the gray, i hope its right, i know its not right in this picture. U can clearly see blue if you compare it with the grey pony in formation.

The hardest thing about LW skins are the colors.  Only the Book that Fester references has any valid historical data and it is out of print and very expensive if you can find it.

There are alot of other websites and books that have varying shades of the same RLM colors.  Simmer's Paintshop is excellent for a reference but should not be considered gospel nor should any single source.

I would also recommend IPMSStockholm's wesbsite @ HERE .

Another problem is that colors appear differently on everyone's monitors.  The basic trick is to get it so the colors look good in combination on your monitor using all the references you can find.  And not to be afraid to scrap it and start all over.  I have done that before and created a better skin because of it. .See this thread.

Mus51, the starbord side of your 109 in the "bluer" picture seems to have washed out or blurred the darker sploches when you changed the base color.  It appears so in the port view as well.

[edit] One other thing, the upper wing markings, are you sure they are the black/white combined type thingee.  By this time in the war I had thought most were the white only.  What is your source material for this plane?

Yea.. u know what.. im going to put this 109 in the closet.. i dont feel charmed to keep doing this skin over and over again.. i have 2 other 109K's wich are nearing done and im pretty certain about the colors being right.

I think i misjudged the hardness of creating LW skins.

EDIT: Fester thanks allot for the headsup about the colors! I really aprreciate it!

it should be a bit more of a duck egg blue with a slightly more greenish tint.

the violet blue hue is a bit off.

its simple to tweak with color balance and hue sliders for the layer in photoshop

try this RGB setting for a late war shade of rlm76 and see how it looks...
