Lots of good advice in the thread.  I've always had good results with New Balance.  Sole inserts help.  Be careful not to wear the shoes too long -- inside support sometimes can break down before the soles wear out.

Don't overlook cross country skiing machines like Nordic Track if you can find one.  We're still using ours after about 20 year.  Doesn't punish your knees.

I used New Balance 1220s for running.  They are a big, highly cushioned shoe.

I have wide feet and New Balance make the best wide shoe imo. Been buying them for the last 20 years and have never been disappointed and I haven't always just sat around posting on bbs'. ;)

wide feet here too = new balance. I have a pair of 411's I find very comfortable.

instead of running/jogging on the treadmill put it at its max incline, set the speed to 4 (fast walk) and go for at least 40 minutes before you cool down. Less impact and you'll burn a load of calories.

It's a NordicTrack EXP 2000 XI we purchased 4 to 5 years ago.
We got ours at Sears. Thought they didn't sell them anymore but here's one on Ebay
