Bomber Raids
« on: December 04, 2007, 12:20:39 PM »
Good day Gentleman

I have been playing for a few months on and off and really enjoy the game. The question I wish to know the answer for is thus: What needs to happen in the game or to the program to make large scale bombing raids viable? It seems that people remember when these took place, but the game is no longer conducive to such things. A protracted  bombing campaign would seem like a great event for us all to be a part of. I realize that people enjoy upping in thier favorite ride and getting into a fight directly, but I can't help but wonder what a more mission and planning based game would be like.

is there anything that can be done to spur on such a collaboration of players? I know the 56th and I would be happy to fly escort or even form up as part of a bomb group. Is there a regular night for such events where bomb squads operate?

Just musing away my lunch hour.

And most of the time where you find a thndregg bomber run you'll find 5 or 6 members of the Lynchmob Squads.  Its fun to see 50 plus planes in the sky!:aok

I was just thinking along those lines today. The trouble with MA missions, is that many of the people want a payoff. They need to see the base captured for it to have been worth it.

The people you need to target are those that want to fly large hi alt buff raids, that dont need to capture, simply go on a mission to bomb something. Then you need to find the types who enjoy keeping those guys alive. Lastly you need people who like to kill bombers and their escort. The target itself is simply the stage.

Now and then???You are too modest my friend!  ThndrEgg's BIG buff missions are legendary in BishLand. Also, some squads do large scale buff runs.  Falcon23 likes the NOE missions with his Rolling Thunder gang and our squad (False Prophets) like to do high altitude buff missions with 6-10 buff "boxes". [just to name a few buff lovers on the Bish side]  I'm sure the other countries have squads that do the same... The more the merrier, so if you like sustained bomber runs feel free to look us up on the Bish side... You're always welcome:)

YES! the mission itself is the goal! I wish the game would reward in spades the bombers who put ordnance on target. For the historically minded, the means are the end if you take my meaning.

I contend and will always contend that a planned and executed historic mission profiles are much more suspensful, exciting, rewarding and in the end fun than upping for the nearest furball. Those furballs are so much more meaningful if they are a result of the mission instead of the mission.

VonKost, if you're into realistic high altitude, long range (ie 8th AF stylye) missions.  We'd love to have you along as an escort!  We are very much old school in that trying to fly realistically and staying alive comes before winning the "game" (I'm not knocking those who are more into the game aspect of AH vs the historical aspect, to each his own).

I have to say the 262 is a pig at that altutude. That and my crappy aim last night saved your B17 - I was trying to ho ya and completely missed :D

Some of that other B17 drivers hadn't that much luck though ;)

for another fine buff run!

I was OK on that mission until I decended to land... A 262 (yours???) killed my drones but not before I smoked a F4U that came at my 6... BAD mistake. Flying EGGs 30K B17 Mission was the highlight of Titanic Tuesday (for me at least)!!:aok

How about you set up an environment where missions have spawn points.  For bombers the spawnpoints could be at historically correct bombing altitudes.  AI bombers could fill in the rest of the bomber boxes if there weren't enough pilots.

The defensive flights would also have spawnpoints.

This whole setup should take about, I'm guessing now, two weeks?
