BUT on the website they offered an additional deal that I got in on yesterday which seemed to be the last day.

Picked it up for $589.99 + tax ( final price was $630.96 after tax) and all I had to do was pick it up at the store.

Man, you sure got a killer deal there on a great camera.

Canon is definitely the best digital camera company there is, in my opinion.  I love both my my Canons, especially my new Powershot SX100IS.  Both of my cameras take standard AA batteries, which is really nice.  The new Duracell NiMH rechargeable AA batteries recharge in only 15 minutes, and will hold their charge now for many months.  And they are most reasonably priced, too.

I've had the S3 IS for over 1 1/2 years now.   The SX100 IS is a brand new model, and just came out two months ago.  It takes great photos even when used in full automatic mode.  

Here is a snapshot I took with it of two flesh eating Zombies that approached me on Halloween eve this year.   This was a spur of the moment shot that I just quickly snapped in full auto mode, as they approached me.   Yet focus, detail, and exposure all came out very well.





They were mumbling "Brains, must eat brains", but I did not hang around to ask them about that.

I have that exact camera. The battery lasts a very long time when charged and with a 2 gig memory card you can get hundreds of pics even on the largest setting. At the smallest you can get thousands.

I think I charge my batteries once every 6 months.



Honestly though, I shot about 1000 pictures in 6 games, as well as 276 portrait photos (Team and portraits for a total of roughly 6500 pictures)with flash this past fall, and I just charged the camera batteries recently (2).

Yes, but comparing these cameras is like comparing Apples to Oranges.  A camera that costs $1,600 for just the body is in an entirely different league.   The configuration that you own that you show in your photo here that would also throw in Nikon's Multi Power Battery Pack, as well as a lens, would come to well over 3 times what DREDIOCK paid for his Canon.

98% of Amateur Photographers would also not want to add all of the extra weight and bulk that the Nikon battery pack for the D200 has.

It easily converts to a single battery without the grip, but the grip really makes handling the camera in portrait mode a breeze due to the additional shutter button in vertical aspect as well as twin dials for adjusting aperature and shutter speed. Now that I've used it a full football season, that extra bulk is a non-issue for the extra gadgets.

I still have my D70s if I want to go ultra-light.

Incidently, I've used various models of both Canon and Nikon, and I like them the same. Both are great brands that offer a wide choice in lenses.

My only point is that your D200 is a semi-professional model.  Only a very advanced and dedicated photographer would own it.   Either a professional, or a truly devoted amateur who is extremely serious about his hobby.

Many believe that Canon and Nikon have both been the leaders since the beginning of Digital Photography.   All the other companies have been playing catch up, but to no avail ( in my opinion ).   So I fully agree with all that you say here.

Eagler, I also just purchased the D80 as well.  The set-up I got also came with an informational DVD.  A lot of real good info on there.  I can try and burn a copy (if its not copyrighted) for you and send it.  Just give me a day or two to see if I can burn it.  I'll PM you with the results.

Keep your fingers crossed.  The last time I tried to burn a dvd, I ended up with 2 hours of the Wiggles Show.
