The only problem I would have is that we would need to map 2 buttons to check 6, the Linda Blair view lets us do it with one.  I don't have any buttons to spare.

Don't know about anyone else, but while flying about in a C-177RG I have been known to lean forward, twist at the waist and turn my head to look directly back out the rear window. Uncomfortable, but not impossible. And if I can do it to check the Thunderhead behind me I sure as heck could do it if I was worried about a 109

realism.

takes two head movements and a clearing turn to check 6 in real life

and if your strapped down tight for maneuvering you can't even get more than a side view

just talking from experience in pitts stunt planes with the nice bubble canopy trying to look for traffic so we could freely fly around all crazy like

5 point harnesses jimbear. one thing you never want to be is loose in the straps. and comparing cessnas to anything other than transportation is looney

try it with me... without moving your shoulders, how far does your head "swivel"?

that and there is no element of surprise in AH with those massive Icons and linda blair 6 view.

talk to some ww2 fighter jock vets on it.

Agree with Citabr on the straps thing.

Got a little time in the pitts....last thing you want is to go inverted and find yourself hanging by the straps because you didn't tighten 'em down enough.  HeHe, not a warm and fuzzy feeling.

Of course, having said that, and since I'm the lazy type, I like having that 6 view in AH.

Keep in mind as well, this is virtual. If I turn my head while flying AH, I am looking at my den sofa  . We have to use our fingers to hit switches to do our looking around and we have no peripheral vision to speak of. If we had the luxury of head mounted displays and the like, a limited 6 view would probably be called for then.
Or am I just talking out my prettythang! Be kind now.

Well,im sitting here at my computer thinking about the 6 view. Ok,ill look around to check 6 without moving my waist & shoulders.

Look left, not only can i see my 6 i can see my 5 in my peripferal vision. Ok,look around my right and agian not only can i see my 6 but i can see 7 as well.

So Citabr,Do you have a few of you neck vertabra welded together. Barring that, are you 108 years old and cant move your head?

What am i missing hear? With lack of head movement,im surprised they allow you to drive a car never mind a Pitts or an Eagle.

I stand corrected with your 5-point harness analogy, now substitute a rear view mirror and I will gladly forego "Linda"

My only problem is with the unrealistic 360 head turn.  If you look at your number pad... when I am looking "1" (rear left) and then want to look "3" (rear right) my head should quickly go through "1, 4, 7, 8, 9, 6, 3" instead of what it does now "1, 2, 3".  Your head should snap around the cockpit to look over the other shoulder, not around the headrest!

No 360!

Just prgoram the rear quarter view to alternate sides!  One pull on the rear hat shows left rear qurter.  Another pull shows
right rear quarter.

Yes pulled g's looking back many times. And you can see directly behind you.

In simulations we give up a lot to the monitor in the way of vission. Trying to be total accurate in one area, like the direct 6 view, with out taking into account all other aspects of vision in the game , dosn't always make it more realistic.

well my vision is only 20/20 and I only have normal peripheral vision and when I'm part of the airplane I can't see directly behind me.

and when i do loosen the shoulder straps I can over the shoulder view better but not get a direct 6 view.

just a suggestion, flame away I don't mind

simply wondering why its even there when the two rear quarter views provide the information in a much more realistic fashion when the pov is offset to represent "over the shoulder" view.

however the pilots eyes can extend outside the canopy by moving the pov which is also a bit unrealistic.

why would they bother to invent a bubble canopy if checking 6 was so easy in the p51B and p47C by just moving ones head around against the canopy plexiglass
