Hi All,

I loaded up SP3 on my box after reading this thread & I have had no problems at all. What I have noticed is that my DSL connects (networking) are slightly more crisp & noticeably smoother now than before this update.
I wouldn't say the connect speeds improved (ran ping test--saw no change in ms from before SP3 then after SP3 due to the fact that the SP3 install didn't change any settings made prior within the Registry), but I would say that it appears that SP3 does make some improvements as to how my box handles packets received and/or sent, which is a good thing IMHO.

Outside of this, I haven't noticed any other differences-not to say that there aren't any others-I just haven't noticed them.......................ye t.

So far it's been a good ride.

Thanks for the link RedGiant!

Well SP2 did screw up the networking stack pretty badly.

I'm not real computer savy, but I tried this SP3 thing and my 3DMark06 score droped from 10140 to 9837. Guess I'll stick with SP2.

I went back and checked mine. It's still the same at 12698. Are you sure there's no new processes started?

Guys 3DMark is a joke. It tells very little about real world performance and chasing 100 points in the mark serves no purpose other than bragging rights on other users who chase the same said points in an exersize of futility.

Several small alterations in the system can affect the scoring and in the past people have managed to fool the benchmark with several tweaks which do not affect performance but the way the benchmark reads scoring points.

Static benchmarks are nice to see sometimes but you shouldn't put too much emphasis on them.

Its a nice little test tool, I dont rank myself against others I set my own benchmark then try and improve upon that which I think is probably the best way to go.

After SP3 I did see an increase in both my 2d and 3d tests compared to my previous benchmark.

For what its worth.

3DMark only tests your performance in games.  It ignores file transfer speeds etc. etc. and won't give you a comparison of real world computing (non-video games0

No 3dmark only tests your performance in 3dmark nothing else. Real game benchmarks (timedemos) are the only reliable way to test your performance. Hunting benchmark points is futile.
