House Remodel

I'm wanting to turn my garage into a gameroom.  I'm a geek by trade, but I cannot find a contractor in my area willing to do such a small job.

The foundation is concrete but the garage is about 6 inches lower than the rest of the house.  I'd like to raise up a false floor with hardwood flooring to be flush with the rest of the house.  Then I need to take down the paneling put up sheetrock.  My father-in-law put in a large window where the garage door was, but that's it.  There is no weatherproofing just the bare studs supporting the window.  He's unable to help me finish the project.

Is this something I should tackle on my own, since I have no prior experience?  I'm worried about the framing for the window being exposed to the elements for this coming winter, will it need to be replaced if I cannot find a contractor until spring?

The part that I really am worried about is the wall replacing the garage door, making sure it is waterproof.  Generally storms blow in from the direction that wall is facing.

Our home is brick and I'd like to get the wall finished now, and later hire someone to brick the outside to match the rest of the house.

Is there a drainage issue at the window wall? If not then it gets real simple. Lets see some front elevations.

Two things... on why you shouldn't do it..  first of all..  it lowers the value of your house and makes it harder to sell in the future.   most people want a garage.

second... if you have no skills in this area then you probly should not be doing it anyway.   While not the most difficult remodel job, it does require some skills.
