Question about my new comp
« on: December 25, 2007, 11:48:09 AM »
I got a new computer (not exactly new but seems to be a major boost then my old comp)

I had a Compaq Presario with a Celeron-D @3.2Ghz, 512MB DDR2 RAM, ATI 200 Xpress Graphics.

Now im running a Dell Dimension 4550 with a Northwood Pentium 4 @ 2.39GHz, 1GB DDR Ram, nVidia GeForce4 MX 420.

My Question is why does the Dell seem faster at everything, even if it has the older RAM and CPU? and was this a smart move?

Also is having 29-30 Processes at idle good for a Dell computer?

and Merry Christmas

Question about my new comp

Well you doubled your ram, you got what looks to be a dedicated video card verses an integrated video and you are running a better Processor, Celerons are 2nd rate economy processors vs the Northwood Pentium 4 you now have and  if you can get it down to around 20 to 24 processes you do even better.although alot of people have a lot of programs loaded and normally have 30+ processes going most times......

check out http://www.tweakxp.com   and http://www.blackviper.com to possibly cut back on the uneeded processes  ( DO THIS AT YOUR OWN RISK, I SUGGEST YOU THOROUGHLY READ THROUGH THE WEBSITE 1ST )

as for if it is to many processes for a DELL, I have a laptop with WinXPpro Dell Inspiron 9400 and it loads up in my "work setup"  with 48 to 51 processes...........but when I loadup in my "gaming setup" it loads with 19 to 21 processes depending on if I have the WMP loaded and the Nod32 loaded up......

Merry Christmas
