Problem installing XP on Serial ATA HDD
« on: December 22, 2007, 02:20:01 AM »
Hi all.  I recently purchased a Seagate SATA harddrive to replace my old drive that went out.  I have been trying to put windows XP on it and it will not recognize the drive.  I didn't have the boot cd with SP2, so I went out and got a version with SP2 included on the boot disc.  I have an ASUS A7v600-x motherboard and have been doing some research online and have found that others with the same mobo have had similar problems.

Any Ideas?  I know I need to find drivers but there was no CD that came with the mother board, and I have tried some from VIA, the chipset producer with no luck.

I ran into this with my SATA, there is a 1 time thing you have to do while still in DOS window ("press tab for...somethin")---I plunked the cd in at that point, loaded the particular driver from Western Digital, never had to ponder it again. Next time I start box, I'll try and remember to look

"Press Tab to enter user window" (I have ASUS mb, yours may differ) After that, it (mb, I presume) has the drivers to recognize SATA)
