Im looking for a laptop in particular laptops with the Tablet PC feature.

I was wondering if anyone in the AH community has one that they occasionally use for gaming as I would like one that I could do school work and gaming on.

So far Ive looked at these based on that the fact that they have video cards not integrated intel garbage...

Which of these 2 or any other tablet pc's do you think would be able to do college work as well as give me the ability to play AH if I have free time?

If tablet pc's are no good what would you recommend that would be good for both college work and gaming?

Looking around is everex any good? ibuypower?

I've used a tablet laptop for about 3 yrs now. Mine is a "combo" toshiba R-15. Outstanding product but whats really amazing is the product supporting it "Onenote". Easily the single most powerful PC application for "normal" use I've ever seen.

I dont know how a tablet would work for gaming. Nothing that would hinder it (outside of some extra proccesses) however finding one with the memory and VC might be an issue...

I couldnt open the acer link but the upper end gateway seemed OK. I just dont know how good the X2300 integrated card is. I'd look to see if you can find a better VC (no clue what budget is). One other thing to look at is weight and battery life. your primary thought is as a school PC and its a great product for that. I never had a problem with the combo but I'm a headhunter and outside of occasionally toting it around on business trips I use it in a desk enviornment. If your holding it carrying it that might be a consideration. I have 3 batteries...best one gives me 2 hours of serious use. New ones are better....i'd look for longest battery life and the ability to have a 2nd battery in the optical drive slot. nothing worse then running out of juice at the wrong time...

The only thing I am kinda worried about with tablet is the screen getting really scratched up with the pen.

I am really just trying to get ideas on tablet as I am not truly sold on the idea but just looking.

If I dont go tablet I am looking at this one from ibuypower...

While I dont have much knowledge on ibuypower...I have looked at reviews and they say it is a good laptop with high end guts in it.

I've used a Tablet PC outside of seeing a display in a store, but I would imagine they make plastic film screen protectors for them like they do with PDAs to help save the screen. When looking at a laptop, I'd recommend getting a name brand one where you know if it needs to be serviced, you won't have that hard of a time find someone that can. Also finding accessories and replacement batteries for more popular brands and models makes the headaches a lot less. So though the ibuypower one may have the better specs, 2 years down the line when you need that new battery, good luck finding one at least locally.

As for the Gateways and the Vista, get as much ram as you can afford, 2gb minimum. Ram is pretty cheap right now so if they are jacking you for ram prices on gateway, order some up from newegg or elsewhere. 2gb ddr2 can run less than $50 now.

I've always been a Toshiba laptop fan, some Dell's are good. Never really experienced Gateways other than ones 10 years ago. Consumer reports rates Toshiba #2 in number of repairs, behind Mac. But again, since a lot of batteries are very proprietary depending on models and brand, get something name brand.
