You all drive cars, don't you?

My car stereo has a USB port, I have a 2gig flash drive.   Load the drive, plug it in to the stereo.   the stereo also has a XD card slot and an aux port for my mp3 player.  No software issues, no DRM issues just plug and play..

It's a much easier solution then all that iPod fetish cradles. I advised such radios to all my friends who drive. 2Gb of music is quite enough when you drive for 500km in areas with no FM radio. Much better then popular MP3-CD radios. MP3-CD radios are quite popular here because we have hundreds of MP3-CDs in stores, like "all Pink Floyd" or "all Vladimir Vysotsky", so you don't need to have a computer.

BTW you can use your MP3 flash player plugging it into an USB port too :)

If you have a cheap FM radio in your car (so no one will break the window to steal it) - there are MP3/FM transmitters that are plugged into cigarette lighter socket.

I get excellent FM reception problem is I dislike listening to 5 minutes of commericals for 10 minutes or less of music, and constant interruptions by the DJ telling me how great thier radio station is...I have an hours drive in every morning and over an hour back, Radio pretty much sucks....
I agree, the 2gig flash drive holds plenty of music for a weeks worth of driving back and forth to work.  And yes I can plug my Mp3 player via the USB also.   I also have one of those mp3/fm transmitters that I used before my wife got me my birthday present a few months ago.  If you cant get a stereo with a USB port then one of those transmitters are ok, better than nothing, just dont expect great sound,  sounds like crappy am radio.

They're often called FM Modulators here. The problem you'd have with one in Houston depends on the model you own and the stations it can broadcast on. The hispanic stations broadcast at something like 50 times the power level they're legally allowed to, and can/will wash out a modulator sitting directly next to your radio. Nobody says anything to the hispanic stations because then you'd be racist (no, it doesn't make sense, and it's not supposed to appearently).

What turned into a great use for those modulators is actually drive-in movie theaters. Not sure if you have any on your side of the pond (99.9% of them closed here). Instead of huge speaker wire installations, a pole next to your parking spot, and clipping a speaker to your window, you just tune to whatever station they tell you. Much nicer setup.

Nice solution. We don't have drive-in theaters here, and never had, but it reminds me of J.M.Jarre show in Msk in 1997. I work about 3km from Moscow University main building, and JMJ played there with an incredible laser show at Moscow 850 years celebration. 3 million spectators, all the public transportation was paralyzed. We simply took the keys from our Institute's roof, took chairs, tables, wine and food with us and watched the show listening to live broadcast on FM :)
