Figured out how to use AH film veiwer to save files
« on: December 25, 2007, 11:00:34 AM »
Well if this isnt already posted I had a problem with saving videos on AH film viewer, but it so happens there are certain steps needed, so to all of you guys who use fraps you all know most of the time it laggs when you use it, but with the ah film viewer you get crisp no laggin picture.

first you need to get your vid at the beginning and set it up at the angle you want,2nd you click on save to AVI , you save it in microsoft 1 format and set the quality to 100,

3rd step is most important, notice when you save the file the movie starts playing what its actually doing is re- recording you can use the slide bars to get your angles and every thing, the only thing that might fool you is when its re-recording the movie its looks like its playing at a slower speed, but when the file is recorded and you play it on WMP or what ever its perfectly clear and plays at correct speed, Well thats it hope this helps

Thanks for the tips hawkeye, I'm certain some people here will use that information.

Yeah, if your computer can't handle fraps recording (depending on settings) it easily shows.  I recommend running film viewer at half speed and recording.  Then just double the speed of the film in whatever your using to compose it.  But this often throws in another step or so if you wanted to record sound as you'll have to record just the sound onto a separate file.  This begins to defeat the purpose of ease in fraps.

I'll have to try out the avi saving.  I always had problems with it in the past.  If you look at larger gaming communities that make movies, the good ones record their video at around 120 FPS.  And back in the day this was when making a movie was done by exporting individual screenshots.  So, say a 2mb bitmap file for each frame x 4 (120FPS) x 30 for one second = 240mb.  Then you'd export that a program that made those bitmaps into avi's.  It was quite the process but yielded excellent results.

.AVI can be troublesome. So if you have a program that can load .AVI film and export as .WMV you might want to do just that. Load the freshly exported .AVI film from the FV and export it as .WMV.
