I've gone and messed something up
« on: January 01, 2008, 02:13:16 PM »
Well, I'm an idiot.

I'm using vista.  While trying to get my new headset to work I right click on the sound icon and clicked "Playback devices".  I then disabled my sound card (or something) so that I could only hear my headphones.

Now, when I took my headphones out there is a red X by my sound icon, and my sound doesn't work.  I haven't been able to figure out how to enable my sound card back, and I'm hoping I'm just an idiot and it isn't some long complicated process.

Any help?

Hmmm, here's my guess, Go to your Device manager, under my computer properties, Right click on your sound card and select enable. If it's on board sound make sure you have it either on or auto in your bios. I assume the drivers are installed.

I went to device manager, but did not see my soundcard.  Only my Headset stuff.

one would think you could either click on, double click on or right click on the sound icon with the red X  and open the sound device manager window then click on file, then click properties to re-enable your sound? least that is how most windows OS systems can access it directly instead of going to control panel/system/device manager route.......

if you did not see it, then you may have accidentally un installed it.....go to add/remove hardware and do an automatic search.see if it pops up your sound device/sound card/on board sound  any one of these, if it does re install it

NOTE- unless you have both onboard sound integrated and have also added a add on sound card PCI slot type........then you got to make sure every thing is synced correctly

LOL, I'm happy to say it was my lack of knowledge stopping me from fixing this and not some serious problem.  What I did was go to "Playback" under Sounds and right click, and then selected "Show disabled".  Then I just right clicked my speakers and enabled them.

Heh.  Thanks for the help though! If I ever mess up worse than this I know where to go.
