What do you use to download music?

Ive looked into napster, yahoo music, and they are all subscription where it is like renting music rather than owning.

Does anyone here know of a service that is legal where you can pay a subscription that you own the music?

Ive looked at bearshare which is $7 but its p2p I dont think it is legal even though you are paying.

emusic.com lets you download 30 tracks/month for $10/month and you own them (non DRM'ed MP3).  They only have indie music though.  Amazon.com has DRM free MP3 tracks for about $0.90 each (again, own, not rent).  Itunes charges $1.29 per track, I think, for non DRM MP3.  If you are into classical music, hey, it's a possibility ;) , Deutsche Grammaphon (http://www2.ham.deutschegrammophon.com/home) has most of it's library as non DRM very high bit rate MP3s at about $1.29 per track (unless the track is longer than 7 minutes, in which case it is understandably more).

I would stay away from DRM'ed music: if the service decides to change, and the DRM server is shut down, you lose the ability to play your music.

Not that this has anything to do with AH, but I thought I'd mention what little I know.

If you like just listening to music and not buying it, http://www.deezer.com - huge selection of legal streamable music.

Hint: if the title is grayed out, right click and choose 'play this item' the flash is a bit broken for some reason.

Im more looking for a place that is a monthly subscription where you can download as much as you want and you own it.  Wondering if such a thing exists.

How could that exist?  You could set up a single month, download all the music you'd ever want, and then cancel your subscription.  You'd have gotten countless thousands of songs for, well, a song.  ;)  Musicians are entitled to get at least something for their efforts.

Well considering that currently record companies are paying them less than a dollar per album they can sell very cheap online and still make better profits.

Radiohead campaigned their latest album online and let people download it for free and pay what they wanted for it. About half didn't pay a thing, the rest paid $7 on average. So in the end they made four times as much money as through regular cd sales.

Whenever I read something online about exactly how little musicians get per album I am amazed: for example, most get nothing whatsoever from the labels for online digital file sales.  Not a penny.  (Unless, like Radiohead, they sell it themselves online).  I think that many lesser bands don't even get paid for CD sales either.
