190A8 air-air rockets
« on: December 25, 2007, 03:45:50 AM »
I had a very successful sortie in the 190A-8 tonight.  The loadout was with the 2x30mm MK108s, and the two air-air rockets: shot down 2 B24s, 3 B17s and 1 Spit.:aok

Sometime after I launched the rockets I noticed that my maximum airspeed was lower than normal... low and behold, I couldn't jettison the rocket pods!  They don't come off when you fire them, and they don't drop like bombs or fuel tanks.

Is this accurate?

The rocket pods do not jettison after firing the rockets. It was possible to jettison them in the war but it was condsidered a last resort.

It is not possible to jettsion the rocket pods in AH.

I am horrible with the A2A rockets...

When I fire them half the time they don't blow up, and they go right by the plane. So I use them for porking. :D

Here's just one thread about it. It's got an AH film link as well:

The rockets were fired out of a tube which was attached to the bottom of each wing. The drag from those tubes is whats causing drag, much like the wing gondolas on the BF 109's

Do those german A2A roks have prox fuses or do they detonate at a fixed distance from launch?

Timed fuse. Somewhere around 1 to 1.5 seconds, IIRC.
