Another idea

The best idea I've found is to forget about profiles completely and use the AHII control mapping feature to set up your stick.

I don't think that what you are trying to do will work.

In control mode I (planes) my throttle hat controls flaps and zoom power.

In control mode 2 it controls transmission gear up gear down and zoom power

My zoom is turned on/off with the pinky trigger on the stick in either mode.

Having toe brakes that available seems like a waste of a good control. You only use those after landing.

Basically, you want everything you need to control while fighting available on your stick or throttle. Be careful and don't put 2 controls you use together or in rapid succession in such a way that you have to use the same thumb or finger to activate them. For example:

I use the black button under my thumb on stick to drop a bomb. Using the blue lighted button on the right side (other side of hat) for a secondary weapon select would be a bad idea. You have to work both w/ your thumb and unless you're pretty good at "Nintendo" you're going to be pretty busy w/ that thumb.

There are a million things you can program on your stick but I'd stick to those that you really need in the air or while operating an osty or tank.

The slider you refer to on your throttle moves my head up and down when I'm in a GV. Leaving it in the up position is good for osty driving because you can switch back & forth between driver and gunner without having to use pg up  each time to see out.

I use features of both the SST and AH to get all the things I want.  If you don't use SST you lose the ability to set your POV, dials, mouse stick, etc., as buttons or zones while AH lets you fine tune other things like trim.

This is a few of the things I've set:

Set the slider in AH under analogue as "FOV".  When I toggle zoom on I can continuously adjust zoom with the slide.  (Remember to calibrate  the slider) I set the throttle mouse button to toggle zoom on and off.

Set the throttle mouse stick as bands.  Up and down on the stick are flaps up and down.  Forward is WEP and back is Speed/Dive Brakes.

Also, a good trick is to set your first trigger detent to "Fire Secondary" and second detent (fully pulled) to "Fire All".  That way you can just fire your cannons (or one set of cannons) or pull the trigger all the way and let him have it.  Also, bombs, drops and rockets are secondary weapons so the first trigger pull releases them.  I set the SST modes as: one for fighters,  two for GV's and three for Bombers.  For GV's make sure your first detent is fire primary (main gun is primary).
