Can't run Aces High at all
« on: January 16, 2008, 05:56:52 AM »
I have a new system with a fresh install of XP with all the updates to O/S, Directx, video, etc. System is an AMD X2 6000+ with an nVidia based 8800GTS OC card, Audigy 2 ZS sound, 2 gig DDR2 800 ultra ram, running on an ASUS M2N-e motherboard.
I have installed the windows driver package from AMD version 1.3.2.0 as well as the processor driver from AMD.

When I click the shortcut to AH, I get a blank screen with an hourglass, nothing more. Task manager says not responding.

Did a dxdiag and all is good.

Any ideas? Never had a problem with running AH before.

Thanks in advance!

Did you install the patches for Windows that fix some issues with dual core CPU's?  You need the one from Microsoft and the other one from AMD.  See the stickies in this forum talking about this.

Ok, I misunderstood. From what I had read, if I installed the AMD one, I wouldn't require the one from MS. I'll give that a try and post results back shortly.
Thanks for your quick reply Skuzzy!

If that does not solve the problem, I'll need the DXDIAG output.

That did it! Thanks bro!
I did read the FAQ's and should have figured that out...oh well. Chalk it up to sitting in front of this too darn long that day! lol
Cheers!
