Drachen recruiting
« on: January 07, 2008, 10:21:10 AM »
Forming a new all-Luftwaffe squadron tentively named Drachen (dragons).

Group will focus on fighter operations in support of other squads activities.

Requirements:

voice capability, desire to fly 190s, 262s, 163s mostly, interest in history, and team player attitude.

I'm looking for a very few pilots who can fly out together, fight as a team,
return together, and who enjoy Luftwaffe planes...especially the 190 and jets.

If you are not interested, please do not reply to this post.

Contact serpent7 for more info. Currently I am Rook while forming the squad. We can select a country after formation.

We will have a website, forum, and screen shot album...under construction

Below is a preliminary squad emblem

Squad name has been changed to Drachenflieger and now resides on the side of the Knights.

Anyone interested in flying 190's and 262's in a small squad of specialists is welcome. Score not important.

We will be a small group of a few fighter pilots who fly alongside other LW squads and assist. Our focus is on fighter operations when flying together.

Members will fly as equals, noone bossing around anyone else.

Members may fly allied planes providing they do not land kills in those planes. That's about the only rule.

We will have a basic website hopefully in the next few days.

The proper German spelling would be Drachenflieger ;)

And just in case someobeody else is wondering, a Drachenflieger is this kind of stuff:

It's the German colloquial term for both a hang glider as well as it's pilot

Good luck with your squad!

You are correct, however I think there was a Dracheflieger Magazin (Dragon Flyer) at one time. Is it Drachenfliegen (Kite Flyer) now?

Anyway, Drache (Drachen) refers to the dragon....

Kites look like dragon wings, the kite takes it's name from the dragon.

A kite is always spelled "Drachen"
The correct spelling for "dragon" is Drache, but the miore archaic "Drachen" is still used in parts of southern Germany and sometimes in old texts.
However, in compound words it's always "Drache(B)n[/B](flieger). The word Dracheflieger doesn't exist, besides in various misspelled variations on the internet ;)

Exception: If you have an aircraft being named "Drache" (for example the WWII helicpter Fa 223 Drache), it's pilot could call himself "Drache-Flieger" but it would sound very awkward, wrong, and would be rather used as a tongue-in-cheek punt on "Drachenflieger".

Best of luck with the new squad. Good to see another Knit unit pop up now and then!

Oh, and you listed some of the LW planes, but I just wanted to say "Don't forget the 109s!!"
:D

EDIT: P.S. Lusche is german. He lives in Germany. He speaks the language natively. I'd go with him on this one.

Thanks Krusty, but I just want 190 and 262 guys...that's all I'm really interested in. If I can find 1 or 2 I'll be happy (and quite surprised actually).

later

Oh and Lusche might be right, but I don't have to agree with him...lol.

262s, not so much dedicated folks. A lot fly them, to be sure, but not as a dedicated ride.

The 190s, however, are fairly popular, and you should be able to find at least a few (eventually -- you have to find 'em!) to fill out our squad with.

I found Drachenflieger a rather cute one.

Much better than names like "Gimme A Hug" or "Waaaahhh" or other similar nonsense stuff ;)
